When it comes to sustainable fashion, bohemian dresses or minimalist styles often come to mind. However, more people are now becoming aware of fast fashion’s impact, leading to a growing demand for ethical options that will cater to a wider audience.

Enter Mikumo Apparel, a slow fashion label by Asian-American illustrator, Tina (also known as Bon). Drawing inspiration from Korean and Japanese fashion styles, as well as hints of the dark/light academia aesthetics, she aims to introduce a unique approach to sustainable style. Find out more about her and the beautiful launch collection below!

Who is Tina?

With a background in oil painting, and a job in nonprofit management, Tina is a freelance illustrator in her spare time. In March 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic, she started her first instagram account, @bonbon_illustrator, as an attempt to reclaim her creativity and make art for herself again, rather than for others.  Since then, ‘Bonbon’ has amassed a significant social media following of 28.1k and counting.

Please note that referral and/or affiliate links are used in this post.

The Korean beauty industry has been booming for years, so it’s not surprise that it’s also super saturated with numerous brands and products. When people first delve into k-beauty, I find that most are only aware of larger brands (mostly owned by parent companies like Amore Pacific). However, this is one of those fields where indie brands aren’t exactly falling behind – in fact, a lot of the time they are actually doing better!

So then comes to question – where should you start? Today I’ll be sharing five of my all-time favourite k-beauty skincare products. These are all products that I’ve used over and over again, so I would definitely recommend checking them out.

Let’s get into it!

If you’re after something to target dark spots or uneven skin tone, I’d definitely recommend this little gem! The Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum is available at AXIS-Y for USD$22, or in some of their sets too.

If you’re a fan of k-beauty then you’d definitely heard of Beauty of Joseon before! This brand is was inspired by a 19th Century encyclopedia, which detailed skincare secrets of upperclass Korean women from that time – hence the traditional, ‘Joseon’ concept. I’ve actually had my eye on them for a long time but, considering how many people have been raving about them, could never decide where to start. And, of course, this is always a problem best fixed during Christmas! Beauty of Joseon had released a limited edition 2021 Holiday Set, which features a collection of their best selling items – all full sized.

So whether you’re looking to try out a whole range of products, or maybe you’re a long-standing fan and need some more product back ups, this is a great deal to be looking into. This set is currently on sale at StyleKorean for just USD$27.90 (originally USD$91), so now’s the time!
