For people that follow me regularly (here or on Instagram), you will know that I do a lot of collaborations with StyleKorean – who are easily one of my favourite kbeauty stores to work with. They do a blogger program called the Try Me Review Me, which lets people trial and review different brands every month. If you’re a beauty lover or content creator, make sure that you’re following them on Instagram, which is where they typically announce these.

As soon as Huxley was announced, I jumped right onto this – I’m just so excited to dive back into their products. They left a great impression on me in the past and, even though it’s been at least a year since I tried something new from them, I was confident that they would do it again.

For this review, I’ll be reviewing the Oil Essence & Sahara Mask Set – this is available on StyleKorean for a limited time! All of the products are also available for purchase individually too but this set is a great gifting option for Christmas.

Jump onto StyleKorean if you’d like to check it out but, before that, let’s get into this review!

Oil Essence & Sahara Mask Set | USD$63 (discounted from USD$90)

For those who really love Huxley or want to try to more things from them, this Oil Essence & Sahara Mask Set is a good deal! Aside from saving money from the full price, these retail individually for just over USD$70 even when they’re on sale. The gift box set is really beautiful too, so makes for an impressive gift!

This set contains:

  • Mask; Oil and Extract (Box of 3)
  • Oil Essence; Oil-Like, Essence-Like (Full size)
  • Essence; Grab Water (Mini size)
  • Essence; Brightly Ever After (Mini size)
  • Oil; Light and More (Mini size)

Since this contains a full size oil essence, I would mostly be recommending this for combination to dry skin. If you have a more oily skin type, you can also check out the Hydration Essence & Mask Set which contain the same three minis but with the full size Essence; Grab Water and Mask; Moisture and Freshness instead. It’s also a bit more affordable at USD$56 (discounted from USD$70).

Note: The mask that I will be reviewing in this post is actually the Mask; Glow and Brightness – I’m not sure if this is a difference in our Try Me Review Me box or if it’s a mistake in the packaging but I’m happy to try this out anyway and so never brought it out with StyleKorean.

Mask; Glow And Brightness | USD$26.40 (discounted from USD$33)

I’ll be honest here – Huxley masks have always been expensive but they are also one of my favourites. The Mask; Oil and Extract was actually the first product that I ever tried out from Huxley (which I did a brief review of on this very old YouTube Video) and is what impressed me enough to get me trying out other things!

This one is described as a brightening sheet mask infused with cactus extract within a milky essence. The selling points of this mask are as follows:

  • Instantly brightens and helps to even out skin tone: it contains a hydrating and nutritious milky essence to rapidly cool and soothe skin, whilst also correcting skin tone.
  • Formulation developed by unique PE-Tech: this provides a low-viscous formulation that is soft, refreshing and even deeply moisturises skin with a high oil content
  • Mix prior to use: The transparent formula instantly emulsifies when it is combined, creating a milky essence at optimal freshness.
  • Uses a silky microfibre sheet to maximise adhesion and also encourage fast absorption of the essence into skin

In addition, key ingredients include:

  • Prickly Pear Seed Oil
  • Cactus Extract
  • Arabian Cotton
  • Nectapure
  • Edelweiss
  • Glutathione

Each sheet mask is packaged in a frosted, translucent pouch which is absolutely beautiful and also helps you keep track of how the product is looking. The best part is that the two main formulas are kept in separate compartments and so stays fresh.

Once you ‘pop’ the seal, the two formulas combine to create a thick, cream-like essence. It’s actually a lot of fun to do and, personally, I’ve always liked creamy sheet masks.

Personal Experience

Huxley sheet masks will always impress me. The amount of essence in each pack is very generous (so you can use any excess on your body) and I love how the Glow and Brightness Mask applies onto the skin. Due to the thicker sheet material (as well as the creamy formula), this mask lasts for much longer than the listed 15-20 minutes. I actually had it on for a solid 30 minutes or more, while lying in an air conditioned room, and was still able to wipe the excess of the mask onto my body.

I also love how this mask smells – perfect for an evening routine. It has a fresh and light scent, which is very relaxing and is commonly found in most of Huxley’s products. This signature scent was actually developed in collaboration with a Swiss fragrance company, Luzi, and is described as “an invigorating, refreshing scent drawing inspiration from nature.”

After using this sheet mask, I noticed immediate brightening effects which lasted well to the next day. It helped to soothe a lot of the redness and irritation, as well as providing ample moisture. My skin was still feeling soft and smooth the next morning, even though I didn’t layer on any other skincare beneath it. It’s actually rare for a sheet mask to be this effective and I am thoroughly impressed by it!

The only downside to this mask would be the cost. It’s been three years since I first used their masks and the price point hasn’t really changed. It’s a unique formula and so effective, so I can justify the price point. This is mostly something that I would save for special occasions.

Here’s the verdict!

SO WHAT IS IT?

A pack of three masks with antioxidant and moisturising benefits

OVERALL RATING? 8.7/10

THOUGHTS? This mask is just so good. Whether you’re wanting to try this out or one of the other variants, I’d definitely be recommending them. Although they are expensive, very few sheet masks will actually top this and they’re definitely worth it as a ‘special’ treatment. This is also a good introduction to the Huxley brand!

Oil Essence; Essence-like, Oil-Like | USD$34.40 (discounted from USD$43)

Oils have never worked well for my skin, which has a tendency to get clogged and break out, but this Oil Essence is a great in-between formula and worked really well for me! It claims to contain the optimal balance of oil and essence, where the two textures perfectly balance each other out (counteracting any cons and maximising the pros) – seriously the best of both worlds.

The Oil Essence uses Cactus Seed Oil as its hero ingredient, whilst also containing other supplementary ingredients such as Yerba Mate Leaf, Acai Berry, Camu Camu and Quinoa.

This is especially recommended for:

  • People looking for a lightweight product before applying makeup
  • Those who want skin to look vibrant all day long
  • Those who are afraid of heavy facial oils with a greasy texture

Personal Experience

As expected from Huxley, this essence smells amazing. The oils and essence are very well combined, so you don’t really need to shake or mix it up. It applies almost like a gel essence where it has a bit of slip and a glowy, radiant finish – perfect for both your day or evening routine. I also like that it’s relatively fast absorbing, which makes it great for layering up with other products.

Overall, I enjoyed using this essence but have to say that I don’t think this is the perfect formula for my skin type. It doesn’t feel heavy and has a nice finish, but seems to make my skin grease up a bit more during the day. I can use this and didn’t have any adverse effects so would continue to use this – perhaps during the winter instead.

I think that this formula would be better suited for people with combination skin that leans a bit more dry. For those with combination-oily skin type, I would actually recommend their Grab Water Essence (more on that below).

Here’s the verdict!

SO WHAT IS IT?

A unique blend of an oil and essence

OVERALL RATING? 7/10

THOUGHTS? Again, this essence is relatively expensive but it’s truly a unique formula so I can justify it. However, I would not be recommending this one for people whose skin tends to grease up during the day, as this doesn’t really have any oil control benefits.

Miniature Essences/Oil | USD$4.80 (discounted from USD$6)

And finally, for people with sensitive skin or those who want to test out these essences before investing in a full size, these little minis are a great option! I also love that they are included in this set so that you can try it the rest of their range. For my skin, the full size Oil Essence wasn’t perfectly suited for me, and it was actually through trying out these little ones that I found my perfect essence (and therefore the one I want to buy next)!

I haven’t used all of these yet, and those that I have I haven’t used for long enough yet, so will give a general overview on the products as well as what the full size prices are. This would be a good guide for figuring out what you might nice to try out:

Oil; Light and More | USD$38.40 (discounted from USD$48)

Targeted for all skin types, this is described as a lightweight facial oil. It contains prickly pear seed oil (in addition to ingredients like Sunflower Seed Oil, Squalane, Jojoba Seed Oil and Abyssinian Seed Oil) for outstanding moisturising ability and also claims to be fast absorbing, non-greasy and great for protecting skin from various environmental stressors. That being said, the way of using this oil varies for different skin types too:

  • Dry Skin: Mix this oil in with every step of your basic skincare routine, as the repeated application will help layer up the hydration
  • Combination Skin: Massage oil into the T-zone to remove dead skin cells and sebum, before wiping off with a steamed towel. You can also apply this to the U-zone to help regular moisture and oil levels in the skin.
  • Oily Skin: Integrate this product into your skincare routine (as just one step) as the application of oil may actually reduce the production of sebum – as skin tends to produce oil to stay moisturised. The massaging of oil can also remove pore clogging impurities.

Essence; Brightly Ever After | USD$38.40 (discounted from USD$48)

This one is perfect for people who have skin brightening concerns or want a substitute for emulsions. This essence has more of a semi-opaque milky texture and is described as a highly concentrated brightening essence packed with ingredients designed to protect your skin from pollution leaving it refined, bright and radiant.

Main ingredients and functionalities include:

  • Prickly Pear Seed Oil: Moisturising and as an antioxidant
  • Niacinamide: KFDA-approved brightening effect
  • Odeetox: Anti-pollution effect
  • Glutathione: Detoxification and skin tone improvement
  • Bisabolol: Brightening and soothing

Essence; Grab Water | USD$38.40 (discounted from USD$48)

If hydration is a big concern of yours, then the Grab Water would be the way to go. It’s recommended for people with oily to combination skin types so my skin loves this! This would most likely be the full size essence that I would look into purchasing a full size for.

It has a gel formula that applies smoothly over skin. It’s very light, so is also fast absorbing and perfect for use under make up. According to the product description, it claims to provide intense hydration and also help with water retention. It contains 85% Sahara Cactus Extract as well as other ingredients:

  • Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides: To increase hydration retention
  • Antioxidant Berry Complex (Acai Berry, Quinoa, Camu Camu and Japanese Apricot): Antioxidant and refreshing
  • Peppermint: Cooling and Soothing
  • Yerba Mate Leaf: Antioxidant and strengthening

And that’s what’s in this brilliant set! The pack is designed really beautifully – whether its the design, quality or just the fresh scent when you open it up, it’s definitely an experience. This is perfectly timed for Christmas too and I would recommend checking out the Oil Essence & Sahara Mask Set if you are shopping for someone with dry to combination skin. Alternatively, you can also check out the Hydration Essence & Mask Set for those with oily skin types!
