As soon as I saw these on Instagram, I knew that I had to have it! Elie Saab has taken their first foray into beauty through a collaboration with L’Oréal. Fans of the super famous haute-couture designer will absolutely love the intricate details and pretty colour schemes – best of all, it’s affordable too! Called the ‘Power of Grace‘, this collection includes three lipglosses, four lipsticks and a mascara, as well as a nine-pan eyeshadow palette which I haven’t seen in Australia yet (so can’t confirm if it was released here).

All of these feature the brand’s signature beige rose and gold colour scheme, as well as small details inspired by the intricate beading of his garments. It’s totally on-brand with Elie Saab’s signature feminine style and takes a versatile, wearable approach so all of these daily products transition well from day to night.

If you’re keen to get your hands on these, then head over to Chemist Warehouse – online or in-stores. This collection is limited edition though and it’s been incredibly popular, so I would recommend jumping onto it pretty quickly.

Before that though, let’s get into this review – swatches and all!

Top to bottom: Oud Provocant, Ambre Choc and Spice Drama

L’Oréal x Eli Saab Lipgloss | AUD$17.39 (On sale from AUD$24.95)

The collection contains three nude glosses with a Hyaluronic Acid infused formula. The three shades are:

I think that they’ve done a good job with selecting shades that are versatile for different make up looks. However, all of these shades tend to skew towards the light end of the spectrum – Oud Provocant in particular would not work for anyone who isn’t super pale due to the white base. On the positive side, all of these have a medium pigmentation and can also be worn over other lip colours.

Packaging

The shape of the lip gloss tube uses the same shape as the Rouge Signature Brilliance Gloss but taking on the brand aesthetic and style of the designer. With a fully clear tube, the cap uses a beige rose colour with the intricate Elie Saab logo printed on the top (as well as along the side). The tube design is sleek and simple, but the colour scheme also gives it a very feminine and elegant vibe – super on brand! Opening it up, you’ll find that the lip gloss uses an eight shaped applicator, which allows for easy and even coverage on a single swipe.

Overall, I think the packaging design of this is really beautiful. It’s on brand for both L’Oréal and Elie Saab with the consistent tube shape and elevated design. The the gold areas are very prone to finger prints but it isn’t a big issue. The quality of this is actually really well done and I think the printing will last quite decently without scratching (but can’t confirm that).

Personal Experiences

The formula of these glosses are quite nice! They’re smooth, moisturising on lips and have decent longevity – it has a slightly thicker formula so won’t really fade unless you’re eating or drinking. It isn’t overly sticky, so is pretty comfortable too.

Scent wise, this has a sweet perfume scent which lingers around a little bit after application. It isn’t too strong though so I don’t notice it too much. It also has a slight sweet taste but, again, its very subtle.

Overall, my personal opinions on these glosses definitely vary from colour to colour – and I think this really comes down to the individual:

  • Spice Drama: Right away – this is my favourite shade! Similar to Oud Provocant, this has a creamy, non-glittery finish. It has a medium rosy-nude tone and a smooth, comfortable finish. Since the tone is a bit darker, I don’t feel like this settles in lines at all. The colour is also a very flattering, MLBB shade on me.
  • Ambre Choc: This shade has a warm toned peachy base with fine gold reflects. It feels a little bit thinner than the others and has a slight grit to it – expected, since it’s a glittery gloss. Used alone, I feel like this still looks too pale on me (which happens a lot with anything glittery). I would recommend this as a lip topper.
  • Oud Provocant: This is the lightest pink shade and it has a creamy finish – no reflect at all. It has a nice glossy look, but was more pigmented than I thought it would be, with a tendency to settle into lines slightly. It looks much too light on me so I would only recommend this for people with very fair skin or if applied over other lip colours.

Out of the three, I definitely think that Spice Drama is going to become a favourite of mine! Ambre Choc is nice for people that like glittery glosses but, personally, I’m not a fan of Oud Provocant at all. I’m quite pale so, when something is too light on me, I feel like it won’t suit that many skin tones. It could have been more flattering as a sheerer colour with less white in the colour base.

Here’s the verdict!

SO WHAT IS IT?

A collection of three lip glosses with either cream or glitter finishes

THE GOOD

  • Gorgeous and sleek packaging – luxe vibes
  • Smooth and hydrating formula
  • Minimal stickiness and wears well

THE BAD

  • Bit expensive for drugstore pricing (but it is selling for the same price as other L’Oréal lipsticks)
  • Limited shade range
  • Slight perfume scent and taste

RATINGS

  • PRICE POINT | 2/5
  • PACKAGING | 5/5
  • PIGMENTATION | 4/5
  • SHADE RANGE | 1/5
  • TEXTURE | 5/5
  • LONGEVITY | 4/5

OVERALL RATING? 7/10

THOUGHTS? The packaging for this is absolutely gorgeous and I like the gloss formula too – in particular for the creamier shades (without reflect). I can see myself reaching for Spice Drama all the time, but maybe not the others as I don’t like how shimmery glosses look on me.

I’d recommend having a think about your personal style and choose a shade that you can see yourself wearing all the time, rather than collecting them all.

L’Oréal x Eli Saab Lipstick | AUD$17.39 (On sale from AUD$24.95)

For people who are fans of bolder colours, the collection also contains four argan oil infused lipsticks with a silky, satin finish. The shades range from peachy nudes to deep reds, so there’s something to suit all styles. Shades include:

The two shades marked with an asterisks I don’t own, so I’m not able to make an accurate description of the colour. The two shades that I have aren’t super unique but are still very flattering. I also like that they’re both very different, so I feel that there is some good variation in this collection, even if it is mostly limited to nudes and reds.

Packaging

This bullet design uses a similar shape to some other L’Oréal lipsticks, but has a soft matte finish instead. It uses that same beige rose colour, with gold detailing in the middle ring and print. It’s consistent with the rest of the collection and it’s definitely pretty. However, I feel like the external packaging is a bit lacklustre – the matte touch is nice but the gold printing looks a bit cheap. It hasn’t scratched so far but I’m more concerned about it.

However, I still think these lipsticks are the stand out product in this collection, and it has a lot to do with the bullet design (see below)! The bullet is fully embossed with a design inspired by the intricate embroidery of an Eli Saab gown – it is absolutely stunning and actually reminds me of dragon scales too! It’s the first time that I’ve seen this sort of bullet design, especially from a drugstore brand, so I can see why this one as been so popular.

Overall, I’m not the biggest fan of the external packaging. Its decent and there’s nothing actually wrong with it – I just don’t think it has the same luxurious vibes as the gloss. However, the embossed bullet totally makes up for it! Its a showstopper and will most definitely be an instagram darling!

Personal Experiences

If you have used L’Oréal lipsticks before, then I think you would know what to expect. The formula is super smooth, pigmented and hydrating – there’s some transfer, as this is more of a satin finish but it’s so comfortable on the lips and easy to reapply. I usually like to feather these out to the edges too to give a softened, fuller lip look. That being said, these have a very distinctive perfume scent which is characteristic of L’Oréal. I’m not a fan of it but, thankfully, it does dissipate on application.

I think that this is a good daily lipstick option. Out of the two shades, I would likely get more wear out of Royal Attitude, but that’s because I’ve always been a fan of deep reds. I feel like this would suit most of my make up looks.

  • Royal Attitude: This applies so smoothly and with a bold pigmentation. You can actually get one swipe opacity with this shade or focus the shade on the inside of your lips, and then blot it out.
  • Musc Impact: This shade also have a very smooth texture but with more of a medium opacity. It sits nicely on my natural lip colour and looks very flattering too. It isn’t my usual shade but I think that this would suit many different skin tones.

It’s important for me to note that the colours shown in official photography is not very accurate. I would recommend to look at the bottom sticker instead.

Here’s the verdict!

SO WHAT IS IT?

A collection of four lipsticks with a smooth, satin finish and an intricately embossed bullet design

THE GOOD

  • Smooth, opaque pigmentation
  • Argan oil infused (hydrating on lips)
  • Stunning bullet design
  • Consistent packaging to other L’Oréal lipsticks (for collectors)

THE BAD

  • Bit expensive for drugstore pricing (but it is selling for the same price as other L’Oréal lipsticks)
  • Perfumed scent – not my favourite but dissipates on application
  • Good variation of depth in shades

RATINGS

  • PRICE POINT | 2/5
  • PACKAGING | 3/5 (lost points for external)
  • PIGMENTATION | 5/5
  • SHADE RANGE | 3/5
  • HYDRATION | 4/5
  • LONGEVITY | 3/5

OVERALL RATING? 6.7/10

THOUGHTS? I like these lipsticks and I definitely think that I would be getting some solid use out of them. That being said, I don’t think it’d be something where I want to collect them all – instead, I would recommend choosing the shade and depth that suits you best. The actual colour range isn’t super unique, but that bullet design is honestly too busy to miss out on! I just wish that they would change up that scent 😬
