This product was sent to me for review purposes.
Purito is an indie k-beauty brand that is well known for their EWG green level ingredients (that is, proven skin safe ingredients) and their simple but effective formulas. Their brand is all about investing in their products, not in gimmicks or fancy packaging, and it’s been so good watching them grow as more and more people learn of them. They are a brand that I trialed quite a while ago (see all of my past reviews here) and, while some formulas worked better for me than others, I’ve never tried anything from them that’s actually bad – in fact, I’ve always enjoyed Purito and I have a lot of confidence in them!
One of their popular products is their Centella Green Level Safe Sun but it was not suitable for all skin types because the original formula included essential oils. True to their brand values, of course, they have now launched their Centella Green Level Unscented Sun! Not only is this formula free of fragrances, it also has a higher percentage of Centella Asiatica, the perfect ingredient to soothe and calm sensitive skin.
I was so keen to try this one out that I broke into the bottle right away. I’m a religious SPF user (as everyone should be) but tend to be sensitive to some formulas – I have had body sunscreens make my entire body break out in hives before and certain formulas also clog my pores and make my skin super greasy. This formula is so perfect though and, even while I’m working on this review, I’m not ready to let my bottle go.
There are a lot of sunscreens out on the market, but the Centella Green Level Unscented Sun has its own niche. This product is targeted to people who dislike the typical sunscreen scent and want something mild, but effective, that will be comfortable beneath make up. Formulated with EWG Green level ingredients, this product is suitable for all skin types and have no white cast.
This sunscreen is described as a “refreshing and soft product” that protects skin with no greasy residue through the combination of a 70% water base and their three hero ingredients:
- Centella Asiatica extract: To soothe skin and aid in the production of collagen, helping to improve skin elasticity
- Hyaluronic Acid: To help the skin retain moisture and therefore also improve wrinkles
- Tocopherol: An antioxidant which helps to protect skin from free radicals and environmental damage
According to the product description, this sunscreen will provide a hydrated and radiant finish when used underneath make up. If used alone, it will also give the look of a radiant, glowing complexion without white cast.
One of Purito’s brand values has always been to invest more into their product formulations than into celebrity endorsements and gimmicky packaging. For this reason, I always do give them a pass on having relatively plain designs.
This Unscented Sun is no different – it comes in a plain, uncoated brown box with their usual minimalist printing. The sunscreen comes in a white plastic tube that has the same print on it. It’s all very functional and just has the product name and some basic points. I still wish that they would improve on the design a little it – there are plenty of very minimalist packaging designs out there that would be equally as effective.
However, what I can say is that their packaging is made from a good quality material which is similar (if not the same) as what I would get from other brands. The rubber tube feels very sturdy and is quite ‘full’ when you squeeze it out – I’m not exactly sure how to explain it but the bottle combined with the creamier formula makes for ease of control. It has a nice matte finish with a smooth twist off top. This would be suitable for travelling.
All in all, the packaging is very basic and functional. The quality of the packaging is decent, which I find comparable to drugstore or regular road shop brands. It just isn’t as pretty. For personal use it’s fine though and I think it’s a very fair compromise for such a brilliant formula!
Formula & Application
The Unscented Sun is a chemical sunscreen being a chemical sunscreen, this means that it protects by converted harmful rays (both UVA and UVA) into heat before diffusing it to skin. These sort of formulas are generally more lightweight as they absorb into skin (rather than forming a physical barrier). They are perfect for people who are active and/or need a water-resistant formula or who need something that will be weightless underneath make up.
Personally, I tend to swing between physical and chemical formulas. I find that chemical formulas perform a lot better underneath make up, especially for my combination-oily skin type. However, there have been some claims that the heat from this formula may encourage hyperpigmentation – I have heard conflicting opinions from skincare experts though, so I’m not certain about it yet. However, to be safe, I would generally use these on days that aren’t too hot (as I am very sensitive to dark spots).
Back to talking about the Unscented Sun, this has a creamy texture that is soothing on the skin and easy to apply. Although it is non-drip, the formula is somewhat thin once you spread it over your face and it is easy to pat into skin. It leaves no white cast and keeps skin super hydrated, but with zero residue or greasiness. I find that this works really well to balance out needed hydration and works well for my skin type. If you have dry skin, you can easily use your regular skincare underneath too.
Since I have combination-oily skin, which becomes very oily during the day, I have been testing out this sunscreen without any additional skincare in the morning and the results have been so good! The formula keeps my skin hydrated but, unlike some others that I’ve tried in the past, don’t make my skin greasy nor break up my make up.
I don’t even use make up primer afterwards because this sunscreen already gives me a good base to work with (hydrated, fresh and glowy). If you have enlarged pores that you want to cover up though, you will need some sort of filling primer before you apply make up – the finish from this sunscreen can accent texture.
I personally really love this formula. The added ingredients (in particular Cica and HA) work well to treat and soothe skin while also protecting it from the sun. I’m very confident skipping my morning skincare for this – I don’t have much time in the mornings anyway, so this was an added bonus for me. It worked well underneath my make up and gave my skin a naturally hydrated glow without being overly dewy or making any white cast. It’s definitely a new staple in my collection!
Purito wins me over again!

WOULD I RECOMMEND?
I would absolutely be recommending this! To be honest, when I was approached by Purito to review their products again, I was already prepared to be very happy with their formula. I’ve tried a few in the past and, while they haven’t all been perfect for me, none have actually disappointed.
