New Release: Fig Collection (I’m From)

I'm From Fig Boosting Essence Cleansing Balm and Scrub Mask Review

When it comes to skincare, using fruit as the key ingredient isn’t anything new – especially within kbeauty. Sometimes it’s more to do with the scent but, most of the time, it has a lot to do with that fruits’ natural chemicals and benefits. A great example, and the most well known, would be with citrus and Vitamin C. In the end, all fruits are different and you can find a plethora of different skin concerns that can be treated with these formulations.

This new release from I’m From uses Fig, which I’ve never actually eaten before let alone seen in skincare. Because of this, I went into testing without any specific expectations but I was pleasantly surprised! The collection includes the Fig Boosting Essence, Fig Cleansing Balm and the Fig Scrub Mask. It’s available on the Wishtrend website with prices ranging from USD$30-$35.

Since these are a new release, I’ve only used them for about a week or two so the below are mostly my initial thoughts on the products. However, I definitely have my favourites already! At the moment, this range is on sale for an introductory 10% off (limited time only), as well as my code for a special discount: STELLA15 (until May 31st CST)

If you’d like to pick up any of these or explore the I’m From brand, hop on over to the Wishtrend website. Before that though – lets check out the new Fig Collection!

About the Range

The Fig Collection is this year’s first release from I’m From – a brand that formulates their skincare using natural ingredients sourced from specific regions of Korean (hence the name). According to the Wishtrend website, the Fig “possess high polyphenols, omega fatty acids and vitamins (vitamin A, B1, and B2) and thanks to these ingredients, figs are prominently known for their significant antioxidant properties.”

Each product would have its own benefits but, in general, using this entire range claims to:

  • Deliver antioxidants
  • Give skin a hydrated finish
  • Remove dead skin cells
  • And enhance skin texture

As I previously mentioned, all of these products range ins price from USD$30-USD$35 – it isn’t the most affordable by kbeauty standards, but I definitely think that the quality is there! And, of course, you can always use one of our influencer codes or wait for the frequent deals to pick these up!

Packaging – External

The unit carton design for the Fig Collection is absolutely stunning! It made a matte, uncoated cardboard material which gives the product a more natural feel. The overall design of the box (with the duo colour and the classic typographic design) is quite similar to the rest of their products but the stand out detail – and I’m not sure if other packaging has this too – is the subtle embossing over the front of the box! You can see the detail on the photo above: a thin line art pattern of figs!

The side of the box has further details on the origins of the product, which is a great feature that ties into the I’m From name, as well as a percentage of how much of the ingredient is actually in the product. I love the transparency.

Overall, I really love the packaging of this line – they are nailing it through consistency and attention to detail. Everything would look great as a set! Aside from that though, the individual products – packaging, formula and all – are also pretty great so read on and I’ll discuss everything.

Fig Boosting Essence | USD$35

First off, and probably my favourite out of this whole collection, is the Fig Boosting Essence. I’ve actually heard really great things about I’m From essences in general and, after trying this one out, I can definitely see why. According to the Wishtrend website, “This essence contains 62.7% Fig Extract which penetrates deep into the skin for a moisturising finish. It boosts the skin to help absorb for the next skincare step. With the NMF Peptide and Amino Acid, it forms a moisture barrier for a full hydration and also offers anti-aging antioxidant effects with Fig Extract and Polyphenol.”

The specific product claims are:

  • Lightweight texture which quickly absorbs and hydrates
  • Contains BHA from Fig extract, making skin smooth and preparing for the next skincare steps.
  • Has anti-aging benefits through antioxidants

Packaging

The Fig Boosting Essence comes in a 150mL tinted purple glass bottle and has an uncoated matte finish paper sticker. Over time, this sticker may peel or become damaged (because it isn’t waterproof) but I don’t mind this since this is cohesive with the outside packaging and these bottles shouldn’t be getting wet anyway.

In addition to that glass and sticker, the bottle also has a matte finish screw on cap. It’s made from a nice plastic and screws on securely, so I have no complaints there. The overall design looks great! I love that it uses a tinted glass so that you can see the product inside (and know when it’s time to repurchase).

However, the bottle is quite heavy – it looks great on the vanity but glass is definitely too heavy for travel. I usually find these bottles hard to decant too but, funnily enough, this opening (see below) dispenses product very generously! It isn’t the easiest but is definitely possible to put the product into a smaller travel bottle.

Initial Thoughts

The essence has a fruity scent (which may be a Fig scent but I’m not totally sure about it) which mostly dissipates on application. The formula is lightweight but has a bit of slick to it, so leaves skin feeling super well hydrated every time. I can definitely see what it means by ‘forming a moisture layer’ – it’s quite nourishing but still absorbs well and doesn’t clog pores.

I have been using this day and night since I first received this from Wishtrend and it’s been great! I definitely see the immediate effects of smoothing and hydration, though have not used it for long enough to see much in terms of anti-aging (and likely will not since my skin isn’t showing many signs of aging to begin with).

I feel like this would be a great product to layer up if you want the glass skin effect, due to the moisture layer finish. However, this essence has no oil control claims so I found that my skin was still becoming greasy in the late afternoon. I still enjoy using it but, once we are out of this iso period, would keep it for my evening routine only since I would be wearing make up during the day again.

So, here’s my verdict (so far)!

SO WHAT IS IT?

A hydrating essence containing 62.7% Fig Extract

  • HYDRATION | 5/5
  • LONGEVITY | 4/5

OVERALL RATING? 8/10

THOUGHTS? I am enjoying it so far and I’ll definitely be continuing to use this product! It’s worth recommending but, because I do need some oil control in my life, I haven’t fully decided whether I will personally be repurchasing yet. If you do want to get this, I highly recommend getting in during a sale or using a code since it is a bit pricier than other kbeauty essences.

Fig Cleansing Balm | USD$30

Another product from the collection is the Fig Cleansing Balm which is actually the first cleansing balm product being launched on Wishtrend! To be honest, this may be my least favourite product out of this whole collection – it isn’t bad, especially for the first time they’ve done this formulation, but doesn’t tick all of the boxes for me unfortunately.

According to the Wishtrend website, this is formulated with 7.8% of Fig oil water and is designed for effective removal of makeup, dirt and oils. The texture “feels like sherbet then gradually transforms into [an] oily formula when massaged onto the skin.” It is also rich in vitamins and polyphenol to thoroughly hydrate after cleansing.

Specific product claims include:

  • Product has a sherbet texture.
  • Can perfectly removes dirt and makeup residue.
  • Contains Peptides and Amino Acids for a smooth and moisturizing finish

Packaging

Unlike the Essence, the Fig Cleansing Balm comes in a plastic tub packaging – which is both common and well functional for this product type. The colour of the tub (dark purple) and the gold print is cohesive with the external unit carton and gives a product an almost retro sort of vibe – I’m liking it.

Material wise, the plastic is lightweight but still a sturdy quality. I like that the design is printed on too (instead of using a sticker) since this is a product that I would typically keep in the bathroom, and that the symmetrical shape makes the tub easy to stack. In addition to this, the tub comes with a internal lid (see below) which helps to keep moisture out of the product and also a small spatula which fits neatly inside of the packaging.

Aside from regular use, I personally think that these are the perfect travel product so I like that the Fig Cleansing Balm seems to so travel friendly. It’s lightweight, easy to store with a good lid and seems very compact. Packaging wise, I definitely think that I’m From is winning this one!

Initial Thoughts

I really liked the scent of this product – it’s similar to the others in that it has a light fruity scent but isn’t overwhelming at all. I really wanted to like this; I’m a big fan of cleansing balms in general but, unfortunately, that also means that I have high expectations from them.

This product is effective at removing make up and is easy to melt on skin. I also like the sherbet texture – it isn’t overly soft and is actually rather satisfying to scoop up. However, my main gripe with this product is that I don’t think that this is properly removing impurities. It also leaves a film-like residue afterwards, which may be what they describe as a ‘smooth and moisturising finish’, but actually just left my skin feeling congested.

This can be fixed if you follow up with a second cleanser (i.e. a gel or foam cleanser) but I want something that can be just as effective alone. The formula does the job but, overall, isn’t perfect.

Here’s the verdict (so far)!

OVERALL RATING? 6.3/10

THOUGHTS? This product actually disappointed me and, while I may try it out a few more times (maybe when I’m wearing heavier make up), it isn’t one that I would be repurchasing. I am also hesitant to recommend it because of that, but I would be interested to try out any new cleansing balms in the future to see how the Wishtrend formulation may develop.

Fig Scrub Mask | USD$32

And finally, we have the Fig Scrub Mask. This one is actually another winner from the Fig Collection and would definitely be an interesting one to try out (provided that you like manual exfoliants). This is a exfoliating mask that contains 1.2% Fig Powder and also a Black Sugar base to “cleanse and purify the skin so that your next skincare steps with active ingredients and hydrants can better reach the deeper layers of the skin.”

The Wishtrend website also describes this as a ‘double exfoliator’ in that the Fig powder will help to softly dissolve dead skin cells and then the following black sugar scrub helps to remove impurities completely. Unlike a typical scrub, this really is a mask which you keep on for approximately 10-15 minutes before working it in (for the manual exfoliation) and then washing off with lukewarm water.

They also recommend to “[try] using the Fig Wash Off Mask before other non-exfoliating I’m From wash-off masks (ex. Honey Mask, Ginseng Mask) to enhance the effects,” though this isn’t something I have tested.

Packaging

The packaging for this mask is actually similar to the Fig Boosting Essence in that it uses a tinted glass tub again with a matte finish lid and a sticker label. The only real difference between the two would be the size. This Fig Scrub Mask also comes with an included spatula but, as you can see in the below photo, it comes loose in the box – which is typical but does mean that it can be easily lost.

I think that the packaging here looks really nice. I also like that the glass tub is small and has a flat top (allowing for stacking). However, I think that it would have been more practical to do something similar to the Cleansing Balm. Since I often keep my masks in the bathroom, having printed packaging means it is less likely that the labelling will ruin. Having more lightweight plastic packaging would also make this more travel friendly.

Aesthetics wise, this is great. The practicality of the packaging is okay but could be improved.

Initial Thoughts

I’ve used this a handful of times now and I have a great experience every time! The Fig Scrub Mask, again, has a very pleasant fruit scent. It isn’t as sweet as other black sugar scrubs that I’ve used so I think that this is the Fig powder. This scent definitely lingers for longer than the other products – I don’t mind that since I like it, but this will be different person-to-person.

One first application, this mask feels rather thick and very nourishing. Although the black sugar makes it a bit gritty, it’s still easy to smooth over. You do need to be a little bit generous with it though, but overall application is fast and mess free. The scent lingers for maybe the first couple of minutes.

It’s recommended to keep this mask on for 10-15 minutes and then gently rub the product in for the manual exfoliation. The instructions also say to wash off with lukewarm water – the temperature of the water is very important as it actually helps the sugar to dissolve (or the texture will be overly abrasive).

And so here’s the verdict (so far)!

  • EXFOLIATION | 5/5

OVERALL RATING? 8/10

THOUGHTS? Every time that I’ve used this, my skin feels soft, hydrated and brightened (likely from the removal of dead skin). This is definitely a mask that I look forward to using and would likely repurchase in the future too! Highly recommend to check this one out!

All in all, this Fig Collection has really impressed me! Although I wasn’t sold by the Fig Cleansing Balm, I’m also conscious that this is their first foray into this product type so there is room for improvement in the future too. The Fig Boosting Essence and the Fig Sugar Mask are definite winners!

Of course, I’ve only used these for a short period so maybe my thoughts will change (though, at this point, I think that they’re quite solid). I’ll be updating if there are any changes in the future!
