I wasn’t always a big fan of the hydrogel eye mask but I have since been full converted. I usually use the Heimish Bulgarian Eye Patches every second night (or sometimes every) because I work on a computer the entire day – in general, my dark eye circles can be pretty intense and the skin around my eyes can also become very dehydrated easily. Those come in a tub and are relatively smaller pieces to target the under eye area – they’re more affordable for regular use.

If you want something that will target a larger area though, it is worth looking into individual eye masks. One of them, which I recently received from StyleKorean as part of their KLAVUU review package (read the overall post here) is their Personal Care Aurora Pearl Eye Mask in the Brightening and Revitalizing variation. These are currently selling for USD$5.24 which is a bit expensive, in my opinion, but still alright if they’re more of a special occasion product.

So, if you’re keen to read more about this product – let’s go! This is going to be a relatively concise one.

About the Product

This is a full sized hydrogel eye mask – meaning that it covers most of the upper face area, which is very different to most of the others that I’ve used in the past. According to the StyleKorean website, “this eye mask is made of high-concentrated Korean pearl essence sheet” – which is pretty standard for KLAVUU products as their hero ingredient is pearl.

This masks claims to provide comfort to your eyes while also giving a lively skin tone. As the mask is larger, like goggles, it also claims to help care for fine wrinkles though I think this is something you would have to use long term to test.

This mask comes in three variations, which you can choose according to your skin concerns. I usually prefer brightening products, but I’ve actually been leaning towards soothing formulas lately because of break outs and redness. These are the three variations, all which you can buy at StyleKorean:

  • Lifting & Moisture
  • Smoothing & Nourishing
  • Brightening & Revitalizing

Application

Since this is a hydrogel mask, it adheres really well – I just put it on while I was working. When you remove it from the package, the hydrogel mask has a slight crosshatched pattern; I’m not totally sure if this is a design thing or if it means it’s a certain type of hydrogel but I find that these masks are more sturdy and don’t tear up.

The mask feels really cool when you first apply it and the fit is really good too, though it took a bit to get used to it since I’m used to using different mask shapes. The full-size eye mask really covers most of the upper face (except for the nose and upper forehead) so it can fully treat the under eye area, as well as any other puffiness around the eyes.

According to the instructions, this mask is to be applied for 20-40 minutes and then the excess gel tapped into the skin. For me, I kept this mask on for around half an hour before it felt mostly dry – though it’s hard to tell because this hydrogel mask wasn’t excessively saturated to begin with. It kept my skin feeling cool and refreshed.

After application, I went to apply any extra essence in the packet, but there wasn’t any. The mask wasn’t dry per se, but I feel like it should have been more saturated.

Personal Experiences

After application, there was very obvious improvement in the skin around my eyes – the puffiness was minimised and I also noticed some improvement in the dark circles under my eyes (and those have been really prominent lately) so, overall, the effect of this mask was nice. However, I feel like this mask definitely needed more essence/gel as my skin didn’t feel as hydrated as it usually does after using a hydrogel mask – there was improvement, yes, but not as much as I am used to.

The effects of this mask lasted to the morning but were gone by the next night. This is something that I would more recommend for special occasion use – and perfects to use it in conjunction with some eye cream for moisture.

I really love the size of this mask, the hydrogel is a great quality too and adheres so well. If only it were more saturated then this would be a new favourite of mine. For now, I think that I will stick to my tub eye masks.

Here’s the verdict!

SO WHAT IS IT?

A full size hydrogel eye mask with Korean pearl essence for brightening and revitalising purposes

THE GOOD

  • Has three variations for different skin concerns
  • Hydrogel material is good quality
  • Adheres well with a good fit
  • Large mask is similar to eye goggles and can fully treat under eyes and all areas surrounding
  • Evident brightening effect with some hydration

THE BAD

  • Relatively expensive (USD$5.24 per mask)
  • Not saturated enough

RATINGS

  • PRICE POINT | 3/5
  • FIT | 5/5
  • ADHERENCE | 5/5
  • HYDRATION | 2/5
  • BRIGHTENING/REVITALIZING | 4/5

OVERALL RATING? 7.6/10

WOULD I RECOMMEND?

As you can see, the main points where this mask falls short is in hydration (because of the lack of essence) and in the price point. If both of these aren’t that important for you (for example, if you have oily skin skin or are looking for masks for occasional use rather than daily) then I think that you would quite enjoy this!

I really like the shape and fit of this especially, so I hope that KLAVUU masks more of these sort of masks in the future. I’m not blown away by this and, personally, I don’t think that I will be stocking up but I am not writing off these eye masks completely yet!
