Review: Pure Vitamin C Serum (Purito)

Purito Kbeauty Skincare Review Pure Vitamin C Serum

This product was provided to me by Purito for my honest review. Affiliate links are not used in this post.

I was meaning to write this review for the Purito Pure Vitamin C Serum a while ago, but I was hanging back to give this product more time to treat my skin. As I have mentioned in the past, hyper pigmentation and brightening is a big concern of mine – genetically, I am prone to dark spots and so even the tiniest marks on my skin make me worry. Of course, I know that there’s nothing wrong with it, but I still want to do the best I can to maintain my skin.

So, while discussing with Purito about my skin concerns, I decided to try out their Pure Vitamin C Serum. This product is to be used at night (as I would recommend for all Vit C products) and it also contains Hyaluronic Acid for hydration. I’ve actually seen a lot of positive reviews for this online and it seems to have worked well for other people but… alas, it’s unfortunate that this isn’t for me.

I haven’t had any negative side effects and I did notice that my skin was more hydrated and supple. However, since Purito skincare products are formulated to be safe and also suitable for sensitive skin, I’m thinking that this isn’t strong enough for my skin type. However, I still wanted to write this review because I think that other people (such as those with sensitive skin) may still be interested in trying this out – it will likely be more effective for you than me.

Anyway, read below for my full thoughts on this product as well as details on the formulation!

Packaging

I’m going to be very brief with the packaging as it’s very much similar to the Buffet Serum that I previously reviewed from them (and I’ve now almost finished that bottle) – the product comes in a brown box with a very simple design. It suits the brand’s natural concept but I do think that it’s rather plain. However, once of Purito’s brand rules is that they promise to invest in the quality of their products, rather than glamming up their packaging – so I will give them a pass on the design.

Aside from that though, I’m very satisfied with the material quality of their products. I took them overseas with me and I had zero issues with leaks or breakage – it’s definitely sturdy and safe for travels! The Pure Vitamin C Serum comes in a brown bottle, but the product inside is actually a yellow-ish colour. It’s natural for the product to oxidize and change colour a little, but I think that the tinted bottle will help prolong that process too.

It comes with a hygienic pump and, personally, I really like this pump! For all of the Purito products that I’ve tried, the pump has been really good quality and easy to control – which is more than I can say for more expensive brands sometimes…

Product Claims & Formula

The Pure Vitamin C Serum is described as a ‘professional anti-wrinkle serum’ but, of course, I was aiming to use it more for the whitening effect. It has 10% Vitamin C and 84% Hyaluronic Acid, so it seems to be quite highly concentrated. In addition, other points described include:

  • Uses 99% natural ingredients
  • Contains:
    • Hydrolyzed Collagen
    • White Flower Complex and Red Ginseng
  • Has whitening and anti-wrinkle effects approved with the KFDA

The formula is extremely watery and, at first, can actually surprise you! I use 1-2 pumps for my entire face and I top it with an emulsion and night cream. The serum is very easy to pat in and absorb into your skin, though it leaves a slight stickiness afterwards.

For the first few days that you use it, you may have some tingling or sensitivity – this is your skin getting used to the use of acid and it’s actually normal (Of course, discontinue use if it’s excessive). I had the same experience with the Nakeup Face Scaling Cream, so I was expecting this. Within three nights of use, my skin was already adjusted to it and I could apply it as normal. Do note that any broken skin or active break outs may sting though, so avoid those areas.

That all being said, here are the three selling points from their product page – most importantly the first:

  • The balance of the natural ingredient in this serum makes it sale and suitable for all skin types, even oily and acne-prone skin.
  • This serum’s ingredients include Ascobic acid, adenosine and white flowers complex which help soothe and smooth blemishes and acne.
  • Builds collagen, diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, lightens age spots, minimizes pore size, brightens skin, lessens dark circles and puffiness under the eyes, and fades acne scars.

Personal Experience

The full list of benefits and claims is as follows:

  • Helps with wrinkles
  • Increases vibrancy and diminishes sun spots
  • Reduces dark circles
  • Brightens complexions
  • Firms and smooths skin
  • Fades acne scars

Out of all of these points, the three in italics (dark circles, brightening, firming and smoothing) are three clear benefits that I saw from using this product over 3-4 weeks once a day. In fact, within the first few days I was already being improvements in my skin tone. In particular, the product was very good for hydrating and overall brightening of my complexion.

However, I saw very little to no improvements in sun spots and acne scarring – even when I used it as a layered spot treatment. I do see online that others really like this product for this purpose, but I am guessing that this formula was just too gentle for me. I personally don’t have sensitive skin, so I am used to using acids and such in my routine.

However, that all being said, I still think that this serum has it’s benefits for me and I’m going to continue to use it. Personally, I prefer Purito’s hydration products, but this is to my own skin type. If normal Vitamin C serums are too strong for you, I would instead recommend checking out this serum – it will give you the benefits that you’re after, but in a more gentle manner.

So, here’s the verdict!

SO WHAT IS IT?

  • Skin can get accustomed to the formula easily (three days)

  • Helps to lighten dark eye circles
  • Fast to absorb with minor stickiness afterwards
  • Suitable for sensitive and acne-prone skin

THE BAD

  • No visible/minimal lightening of sun spots and acne scarring

OVERALL RATING? 7/10

WOULD I RECOMMEND?

I would recommend this product to people with sensitive skin or whom are sensitive to other Vitamin C products. For my review, this serum does have a low-ish rating but that is mainly because it isn’t giving me much of the main effect I was after – whitening. However, in all other fields, this is a good product. I think that it definitely has it’s strengths and weaknesses, and both the effectiveness and whether this product is ‘worth it’ will really come down to your skin type and skin concerns.
