New Release & Review: Olivarrier

Olivarrier Roseroseshop Brand Spotlight Review Gentle Glow Seed Polishing Mask Dual Moist Toning Lotion Emollient Extra Comfort Cream

It’s been a while since I really wrote about a new release but I’m really glad to get the chance to try and write about Olivarrier. I love seeing new brands launch in the beauty industry, partly because we are always so tough about the products and also being it’s wonderful to see new perspectives break into what is sort of like a closed circle of beauty companies. Fresh perspectives, new products and industry developments – I live for that. I was sent these products to test and review by RoseRoseShop who are so great to beauty bloggers, always seeking out (and giving) honest opinions for their customers. Be sure to check out their store and, onto the review I go!

So Olivarrier is a fairly new brand that launched around late last year. It’s still fairy new even with us bloggers, but I really liked their brand image and concept – all of their products are meant to be controlled at the optimal pH level of 5.5 which, for those who don’t know, is the level you should try to maintain your skin at in order to prevent damaging your acid mantle (your protective layer). You can read more about it here but, basically, your skin can become damaged due to many factors – even natural aging processes.

The brand focuses a lot on safe ingredients, gentle formulas suitable for sensitive skin and strong hydration. They are free of chemical preservatives, coloring agents, fragrances and 26 Allergenic Components selected by the EU.

Review: Age Defense Essential Softener (Etude House)

bb cosmetic review kbeauty korean makeup skincare etude house age defense defence essential softener

I’ve had this post sitting in my drafts for a lot longer than I thought I would but that just means that I took my time in testing it. But, that being said, this is going to be a rather brief and straight to the point review from me on the Etude House Age Defence Essential Softener.

This is a sample product that I received from BB Cosmetic ages ago but I hadn’t reviewed it yet because I was distracted by all of the other products that I wanted to try. I was also a little bit stumped by how I could possibly give a proper critique on an anti-aging product when, for me, my main use for it would be prevention – however, I did figure it out!

So, without any further delay, let’s go onto the review:

Review: Jellypot (Moonshot)

Moonshot Jellypot Eyeshadow Review

It honestly kills me that it’s so difficult to get Moonshot products outside of Korea. Ever since the brand’s launch in Korea, I had been eying their products is absolute envy and the main thing that I’d wanted to get my hands on were the jellypots! I saw a photo of Lee Sung Kyung wearing the purple shade and, from that moment on, it was an epic journey to get my hands on them.

Luckily for me though, I have a great friend who puts up with these sometimes ridiculous obsessions with me so, me and Sophia got ourselves quite lost in Apgujeong when we went looking for their flagship store. Eventually though (and braving that little bit of rain) we found it and I felt like I was in heaven. I love the pigmentations of their products, I love the quality, service and… as a kpop fan, the blasting of Big Bang’s MADE album definitely made the experience. Sorry.

Anyway! So at Moonshoot, I was assisted by one of their great make up artists who helped me test out the products and showed me different applications as well as recommending products and colours that suited my skin tone. For the jelly pots, I ended up going with that purple that I was addicted to, a metallic black which I don’t use much of but liked to use for a night-time look, as well as a rose-gold like colour. The last one I actually received for free as a gift (I bought so much, I can’t even) and was recommended to me by the artist who said that it is one of their most popular shades – as well as a ‘Dara’s recommendation’ – and where Sandara goes, I follow.

Well, let’s get right into this review!

Review: Two Tone Shadow Bar (Laneige)

StyleKorean Kbeauty Review Laneige Two Tone Shadow Bar Eyeshadow Humming Coral

I’ve been testing this one out for a while because I’ve had a few mixed opinions about it. Laneige is very famous for their two tone bars – especially their lip bar – and their brilliant choice of spokesmodel surely helps. There have been a lot of positive reviews about the following product but, to be honest, I’ve always been a little bit hesitant about it. I’m a big fan of eyeshadow and I love to play with different colours and styles every day. The one thing that doesn’t work out very well for me (pretty much ever) is stick eyeshadows. They always seem not to blend well, apply streaky and crease almost immediately on my eyes, so I usually stick to powders. Regardless though, I did swatch this while I was in Korea and I really liked the colour combination but didn’t end up buying it to try because I was worried the formula would crease.

However, I ended up regretting this when I came back to Sydney because I saw so many posts about it and I was so curious about how it would end up on my eyes. Luckily though, I have some wonderful people supporting my blog and StyleKorean kindly sent this over (along with a few other things I forgot to pick up in Korea) for me to review. I’ve been using this along with the two tone lip bars (which reviews are coming soon for) or read on for my thoughts and some recommendations about this easy-peasy eyeshadow stick!

Review: Power Ringer Mask Pack (Elizavecca)

Elizavecca Sheet Mask Power Ringer Review

These masks are definitely going to take me a while to get through (because I seldom have the time for daily masking) so I thought that I would post up this review first with the overall comments before gradually adding in notes for each individual mask. Great idea, right?

Anyway, the first thing I want to say is Happy New Year! This one is going to be my first review of the year and I’m pretty happy that it’s for an Elizavecca product – their brand made quite a splash in 2016 and I’m hoping that they become even more popular in the year to come. It’s great watching some of these more off-beat or independent brands thrive in an industry as saturated as kbeauty.

For these masks, I received them from BB Cosmetic when I was in Korea last year (that is strange to say) and they are meant to be used as daily masks, I believe – though I will be spreading them out. They all use different ingredients to target different things, though the description is a little difficult to understand. Selling in a pack of ten, you’re meant to be able to pick and choose which mask(s) to using during the week to customise your skincare.

Top 10 Skincare Products of 2016

Top 10 Skincare Products 2016 Review List

With the new year coming really, really close, it seems like it’s time for me to finish up my list of top skincare products for the year too! Skincare is an absolutely essential part of a beauty regime and it took spending quite a while in Korea for me to really jump on board of this. Let’s get real here: make up gives you instant results. With the right skills, you can completely transform your look, hide your flaws, in a matter of minutes. There is a reason I tend to review make up more than skincare – it’s faster and I’m impatient.

However, it is important to keep in mind that skincare is not an overnight thing. It is a dedicated regime that improves and protects your complexion continuously. After all, good skin doesn’t wipe off with a baby wipe.

Keeping that in mind, you can actually argue that skincare is more important that make up – and most people believe that. I’m not here to debate though and, instead, I’m going to be showing you the products I’ve used with dedication through this year. These are all things that I love, will be taking with me to 2017 and hope will help you too when you go to check them out. Read on!

Top 10 Makeup Products of 2016

Top 10 Makeup Products 2016 Review List

With the new year slowly approaching, it seems only appropriate to do a wrap up post! I’ll be (hoping) to do two of these, so first up is my Makeup post! In my first year of blogging, I realised that I like to test out make up products more than I do skincare – even though I am an absolute geek for a thorough and well considered skincare routine. Perhaps this is because I’m not a very patient person and I like something where I can see results right away. In addition, I do wear quite a bit of make up every day of the week for work, so finding the perfect products is really important to me. I am someone with rather temperamental skin conditions (sometimes very oily and sometimes ridiculously dry) and sensitive eyes, so I am quite strict sometimes on the products that I love and I don’t.

For this reason, I am sometimes a bit of a stickler for brand choices. My brand choices for this year have mainly centred about long-lasting power, high pigmentation and my beloved dewy finishes. Clio remains on top as one of my favourites, with 3CE being a very strong contender in some areas and LUNA being a surprising – but not that surprising – new obsession of mine.

If you’re interested in reading about my top choices (and yes, of course you are) then click on! These products are in no particular order but are all products that I loved and used continuously throughout the year.

Review: Glossing Waterful Foundation (3CE)

3CE Stylenanda Glossing Waterful Foundation

I’ve been wanting to try using foundations again but have been hesitant to pick up some Western brands because they’re often a bit too heavy for me (though seeing Sophia use the NARS one is tempting me to pick up a bottle myself), so I was pretty glad when I went to Stylenanda to see that they do carry foundations and not only BB creams. I picked up two from one – a cream that was thicker and this water based foundation which had a light, natural coverage. I thought that this would be suitable for every day use, especially in the hotter weather when I don’t want to be caked on.

I picked this product up in Natural Ivory, which is actually a shade lighter than what was recommended to me. I find that most store assistants will recommend me a slightly darker shade (usually a 23) but I much prefer the look of a 21 on my skin. I find that it blends better and looks more natural with the rest of me too. Plus, I am also a sucker for wanting a pale complexion.

Review: Essence Water Pact EX (Luna x Doii)

Luna x Doii Essence Water Pact Ex Limited Edition Lucky Horror Show

So, so many cushions! Honestly, I can’t believe that it was only a few months ago that I never really used BB cushions. I mean, I knew what they were and I did own one, but I had always preferred bottle formulas – most likely because I am a creature of habit. I did jump onto the cushion bandwagon with IOPE and Clio though and, before I knew it, I absolutely couldn’t stop. I think that I am now slowly approaching thirty cushion compacts (not including refills) so you can see that I’m rather picky with what I do and don’t like now.

This pact (though not technically a cushion, I will count it as one) is actually the first LUNA product that I had tried over a year ago – that was when it first came out, I think, and I saw the special stand at Watsons in Sinchon. Since I wasn’t a big user for compacts, I hadn’t bought it then but I regretted it so badly. I spent an entire year thinking about the amazing dewiness of the finish and the perfect coverage that I had swatched, so it is understandable that I didn’t even care how much it cost. Once I stepped foot into the Watsons, I grabbed the compact – no questions, no hesitations.

I did find an exclusive Halloween edition though, which was sold only at Watsons called the Lucky Horror Show, so I knew that I wanted that design. Aside from the cushion, I also grabbed their liquid concealer and concealer palette (which I will review at a later date) but I do think that I’m obsessed with their brand. Read on for my review!
