Diary: Anxiety & Getting Better

I contemplated for a long time whether or not to write this – not because I am at all ashamed of it, but because I’m very unsure of how people might receive this sort of content on my blog. Mental Health is a topic that has been close to my heart since high school, when I first started to understand the struggles of people around me, and unfortunately it is also one that we don’t discuss enough. Every time it is brought up, the words Anxiety and Depression are spoken in hushed whispers, like it’s a secret that needs to be buried and hidden.

Except it isn’t. Not at all.

Diary: Things that I love (and aren’t beauty related)

Photo by Wang Xi on Unsplash

So this is something a little bit different, but I did make a new years resolution (not sure if it was this year or last) that I wanted to do more personal posts on my blog so that people could actually get to know me and my life – rather than just a plethora of beauty posts and product reviews (though I bet that that’s why people come here anyway).  I actually drafted up a couple of headings and I have a few heavier topics that I want to write about, but I figured that it’s better to start off on a lighter foot.

Plus, I’m writing this while watching an episode of Criminal Minds, and that really isn’t the right mood to write about the darkness of my soul – is it?

So, kicking this off, I’m going to list and share a couple of things that I absolutely love and that have nothing to do with beauty at all – no products, no regimes and no make up trends. Just me, and everything else that makes me who I am.

Diary: Pony x Shiseido Masterclass

Pony Shiseido Masterclass

When I first got into kbeauty, I started to follow a handful of makeup artists and influencers on Youtube – one of the first being Pony. She’s a very famous Korean youtuber who got her start with a makeup blog and a resulting how-to book, but she has since moved on to be a beauty creator with her own channel and a bunch of brand collaborations. I respect her a lot as a beauty influencer, as I find that she has a lot of personal tips to share, which are especially good for people wanting to improve their own skills or to experiment (but perhaps not as relevant for professional make up artists). That being said, when I found out that she was coming to Sydney for a Masterclass, I bought tickets right away!  All of her videos and tutorials are great for people who want to improve and learn to do make up for themselves (me included), while also exploring some more professional and artistic techniques and styles too.

I was also really excited because I rarely get the chance to meet these big Youtubers in person – especially one from Asia! Only a handful of people will come to Australia so most of our events are generally Aussie Youtubers only. I was also really excited to see Pony in person because… goodness, she is just so pretty and I think I just needed visual proof that she actually exists in this realm. LOL.

This isn’t going to be much of a blog post but I generally just wanted to share some photos from the day. Here we go!

Diary: Urban Decay x Mecca Maxima | Beauty Boot Camp

A few weeks ago, I received an invitation to a Beauty Boot Camp, held by Mecca Maxima and Urban Decay! This is one of the first official PR events that I’ve been invited to and, when I got the invite, I was so excited that I may have squeaked a little – I was also kind of convinced that I got the invite by accident (and I am still convinced about this) so I was pretty nervous in the weeks leading up. Excited, but also nervous. I wasn’t sure of what to expect and, since I am a fairly keep-to-myself sort of person, I also wasn’t sure that I would know anyone there.

But, I had such a great time today (yes, I am writing this the very night) and I came out of the event not only more informed about Urban Decay as a brand, but also very inspired by the beauty and content creation talks – aside from Steve K (the global make up artist for UD), we also heard from one of the Mecca social media team members about content creation and curation for Instagram and a YouTube team member about creating a successful channel and engaging videos. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos of the latter too (as I was much too busy trying to take in the information), I did make sure to document the wonderful event and get a few photos of Steve!

So, keep reading for some information on the Urban Decay brand, what they mean to me and some photos of the day!

Diary: BONIIK & The Face Shop Sydney Brand Ambassador

Event Boniik Sydney The Face Shop Kbeauty Blogger Ambassador Night

We don’t have many kbeauty sources here in Sydney, or our selection in general can be rather small in comparison to other countries, so you can imagine my excitement for this! I was recently chosen as one of the new Brand Ambassadors for The Face Shop Sydney/BONIIK and we had a welcome night around two weeks ago – and it was so good. I wanted to write this post before I left for US/Canada but time hasn’t been on my side, so here I am finishing it in my Montreal hotel.

The Face Shop Sydney specifically is very close to my heart. Years ago when I first got into Korean beauty, we only have extremely limited choices here in Sydney and I didn’t shop online back then either. From their store, I got my first bb cream (the Power Perfection) and my first HG eyeliner (there was a gel liner crayon that lasted really well on my eyes). I don’t use either of these products anymore, but it’s still a significant part of my beauty journey.

The BONIIK store, on my other hand, was opened recently by the same people. Meeting the manager, she explained that this store (which carries a wide range of different brands and products, ranging from smaller brands like 23 Years Old to high end brands like Hera) came to fruition as a response to changes in how people view beauty now – in the past, people wanted to be loyal to a single brand and would buy everything from the same line, hence the popularity of one brand stores. However, people are now more interested in trying different products and exploring their options.

For that, I can definitely agree. I love walking into stores that have a large range of products and, even when I find something that I love, I’m always on the look out to see if I’ll find something that I love more. On this note, I think that BONIIK has definitely hit the spot and I’m excited to show you more photos of the store! Of course, if you’re not based in Australia, you can also shop their range online so check that out too – click here.

Diary: Myer Beauty Masterclasses | Meeting Tina Yong and Learning from YSL

Myer Beauty Masterclass YSL

I found out about the Myer Masterclasses on Instagram via Tina Yong‘s Instagram – where she advertised that she would be holding some lessons at the department store that is close-ish to my work place. I really didn’t want to miss out on these, partly because I’m a big fan of her videos (and I’ve been binge watching the Tina Tries It series pretty often) and also because the prices were pretty good.

In addition to this class with Tina, I also chose to attend two other masterclasses with another two brands – YSL, which was on the same day, and MAC Cosmetics, which is next week. The brand masterclasses were AUD$25 each and the lesson with Tina Yong was AUD$50 – both of these classes also include gifts from the brands which more than make up for the cost of the seat.

Both of these classes have different topics. For Tina’s class, it was mainly about easy and useable daily make up tips (focusing on a fresh and radiant look) which are suitable for people on the go. I ended up attending these class with two of my friends but I went to the YSL class alone – this was more about night time make up and introduced a lot of the YSL brand (and I love their brand).
