Review: nomakenolife (Japanese & Korean Beauty Box)

NMNL No Make No Life Beauty Subscription Box January Review

This product was sent to me for review purposes. I was not paid for this post but please note that affiliate links are used. These go towards supporting Oh My Stellar and future content.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you might have noticed that I don’t review subscriptions boxes very often – it’s really just because I have a lot of products so find it hard to review. However, one box that has had my attention for literally years is the nomakenolife (or NMNL) box – they launched back in 2016 with a focus on super cute Korean and Japanese beauty products.

I was in particular interested in Japanese products- I adore J-Beauty but find it really hard to purchase overseas, and even harder to actually find out what I’m buying as there’s very little English information online. Because of this, I find it very helpful to have them selected and sourced for me to try out. The team from NMNL is actually Tokyo based too, so they’ve got their thumb on the latest trends and best selling products.

They also have special perks for subscribers – you gain points for every consecutive month that you’re signed up and can exchange them for exclusive items, get discounts or even shop on JapanHaul – and there’s some really cute stuff.

If you want to take a peek, head on over to the nomakenolife website. But before you do, let’s jump into this box!

Lunar New Year Shopping Guide

Lunar New Year Shopping Guide

Lunar New Year is approaching again! Being of Chinese descent, I celebrate with my family every year. I’m hoping that we can do the same again but, due to the COVID-19 situation, will have to see how things go – I have a fairly large family (with a lot of kids) and it’s always our tradition to have a reunion dinner. There’s also the giving out of red envelopes (li shi in Chinese), but I find that spending time with my loved ones is a lot more important to me now.

In Chinese, we call the Reunion Dinner tuan nian fan and it’s really the most important get-together event of the year. In Western Society, it’s really common to have parties or even go on holidays to celebrate the new year, but Chinese culture is all about being with your family. Around this time, people will almost never go on holidays unless they are travelling back to their hometowns to be with relatives.

I’ve always loved that tradition. As everyone gets older and busier (with most of the family working jobs, having a couple of kids and trying to navigate life in general), it can be so hard to find time to get together again. Personally, I think it’s important to see your parents and family throughout the year but it’s also nice that there’s a special dinner especially for that!

Because the Lunar New Year is so important throughout all of Asia, there are a lot of makeup brands that also release limited edition collections for the occasion. You’ll find that there are a lot of repackaged products – since it is customary to give gifts rather than buy things for yourself – but well… there’s no harm in having a bit of fun ourselves!

Here’s a short gift guide on some things that are available this year around. Click below to jump straight to the brand you want or head right to the bottom for some gift-giving tips!

Review: Cica Care Collection (VT Cosmetics)

VT Cosmetics Cica Skincare Line Kbeauty Review StyleKorean - Cica Skin, Cica Cream, Soothing Mask, Sleeping Mask

This product was sent to me by StyleKorean for review purposes. I was not paid for this post but please note that affiliate links are used on my blog. These go towards supporting Oh My Stellar and future content.

If you’re a fan of Centella Asiatica, then you’ll be very excited about the Cica Care Collection from VT Cosmetics! I was first introduced to the brand via their makeup but it didn’t exactly blow me away. I’ve been looking to give them a second chance though and I’m pleasantly surprised this time! This collection is all about Centella (also known as Cica) – it’s one of my favourite soothing skincare ingredients and I’m always working it into my routine.

The Cica Care Collection is actually quite extensive but I’ll be reviewing four products: the Cica Daily Soothing Mask, Cica Cream, Cica Skin and the VT Cica Sleeping Mask. All of these are available on the StyleKorean website but I would actually recommend checking out the main VT Cosmetics page instead – they are so many other products ranging from masks to sun care.

I’ve been using these products since December last year, so it’s been a decent amount of time now. Let’s get into this review!

Brand Spotlight & Review: Huxley

Huxley StyleKorean Try me Review Me Kbeauty Skincare Review

This product was sent to me by StyleKorean for review purposes. I was not paid for this post but please note that affiliate links are used on my blog. These go towards supporting Oh My Stellar and future content.

For people that follow me regularly (here or on Instagram), you will know that I do a lot of collaborations with StyleKorean – who are easily one of my favourite kbeauty stores to work with. They do a blogger program called the Try Me Review Me, which lets people trial and review different brands every month. If you’re a beauty lover or content creator, make sure that you’re following them on Instagram, which is where they typically announce these.

As soon as Huxley was announced, I jumped right onto this – I’m just so excited to dive back into their products. They left a great impression on me in the past and, even though it’s been at least a year since I tried something new from them, I was confident that they would do it again.

For this review, I’ll be reviewing the Oil Essence & Sahara Mask Set – this is available on StyleKorean for a limited time! All of the products are also available for purchase individually too but this set is a great gifting option for Christmas.

Jump onto StyleKorean if you’d like to check it out but, before that, let’s get into this review!

Review: Intensive Moist/Firming/Radiance Sauce Modeling Mascream (Neogen SUR.MEDIC+)

Neogen Surmedic Modeling Mascream Skincare Review

This product was sent to me by StyleKorean for review purposes. I was not paid for this post but please note that affiliate links are used on my blog. These go towards supporting Oh My Stellar and future content.

I’m a big fan of modeling masks and the ones that I’ll be sharing with you today are actually from a brand that is both new and familiar to me! SUR.MEDIC+ is a brand developed by Neogenlab, so you will often see their products listed under the Neogen brand too. They are a “personal skin concierge,” using the concept of skincare first aid to develop products that are effective, easy to use and accessible anywhere. Their products cater to a variety of skin concerns too, so there’s a lot of choose from!

The masks that I will be trying out today are called the Intensive Moist/Firming/Radiance Sauce Modeling Mascream – as you can tell from that awkward name, there are three different variants to target moisture, firming or radiance. I have been gradually testing these out but haven’t used all of them yet, so will put in product information and then add in individual reviews as I go.

These were gifted to me by StyleKorean to review, so pop over there if you want to check them out. They’re under the Neogen brand and are currently on sale for USD$8.80 (usually USD$11).

And now, let’s get into this review!

Brand Spotlight & Review: Pyunkang Yul

Pyunkang Yul Kbeauty Review StyleKorean Try Me Review Me

This product was sent to me by StyleKorean for review purposes. I was not paid for this post but please note that affiliate links are used on my blog. These go towards supporting Oh My Stellar and future content.

It’s been a while since I wrote about Pyunkang Yul but their brand concept is so unique that I’ve yet to find anything else like it. The brand was established by the Pyungkang Korean Oriental Medicine Clinic and therefore has a background in traditional medicine. Their products are formulated with the values of minimalism and balance, as well as the concept of skin temperature optimisation – you can read more about this in my original review of the Mist Toner too.

I’m collaborating again with StyleKorean and Pyunkang Yul again for one of their latest Try Me Review Me campaigns – if you’re a beauty lover yourself, do make sure to check out their website. They’re a trusted and wonderful online store, that spends a lot of time supporting the kbeauty community and creators as well. I’ve been working with them since the beginning of my beauty journey – I am happily both a collaborator and customer!

The products that I’ll be reviewing today are the Essence Toner, Moisture Serum and Nutrition Cream – almost a full skincare routine. I’ve been using these are around 2-3 weeks now, mostly alone except for an additional anti-acne serum (to target my chin area) and I’ve been pretty happy with the results.

All products from the Pyunkang Yul brand boast zero irritation, EWG Green ingredients, and a minimalist formula which is also fragrance and colour free. You can tell that they really focus on clean and simple formulas, which would definitely suit a lot of skin types.

If you’d like to pick these up, hop on over to StyleKorean. Before you do though, lets get into this review!

Battle of the K-Beauty Sunscreens (Stylevana Collaboration)

Stylevana Kbeauty Sunscreen Review - Make P:Rem, Biore, Missha and Labioette

Personally, I think that sunscreen is one of the most underdone steps in our skincare routine. Everyone knows how important it is, but we are often mistaken about how much we are actually doing. There’s a misconception that our foundations, which mostly contain some level of SPF now, is sufficient sun protection – but it’s really not. Whether you are going to the beach or just staying indoors with your computer, you should be using specialised sun care.

Admittedly, I didn’t use sunscreen at all when I was a teenager. I had an allergic reaction once so figured that was it – but I was absolutely wrong, The issue that I had in the past was that many would be heavy on my skin, clogging pores and causing break outs – so the question is: What’s a good sunscreen? Where should you start?

Today, I’m going to be looking at six different Korean sunscreens and discussing the pro’s and con’s for all of them. Of course, this review will be written purely in my own perspective and with my skin type in mind, so I would recommend doing some research yourself too!

All of these were kindly gifted to me by Stylevana – and they’re all available on their website. If you’ve found something you like, hop over there to make an order. Valid until the end of November, you can also get 10-15% off your order with my code INF10STELLAR (excluding weekend deals and instant offers).

And… let’s get into it!

What type of moisturiser should I use? (Laneige’s Water Bank Collection)

Laneige Water Bank Collection Hydro Gel Moisture Cream Hydro Essence Review

This product was sent to me for review purposes. I was not paid and affiliate links are not used in this post.

Hydration is so important, but it is also something a lot of people seem confused about. I’ve had a surprising number of people confess that they don’t actually have a skincare routine and have never touched a moisturiser in their life: usually because they feel their skin is already oily or feel that face creams are too heavy.

So for today’s post, I wanted to do more than just write a review. Today, I want to unpack the Laneige Water Bank Collection and give my recommendations for when to use them. There are recommended skin types, but I’d like to discuss what the differences are between them, as well as giving suggestions for seasonal suitabilities.

I have three of the products on me but I want to talk about the whole range: this includes the Hydro Essence, Hydro Gel Moisturiser, Moisture Cream Moisturiser and the Moisture Cream Intensive Moisturiser. The first two have a lighter texture which is best for oily-leaning skin types and warmer weather, whilst the Moisture Cream (and the Intensive version) is better for dry skin and weather.

So, read on to find out more!

First Impressions: K-Beauty Haul (Stylevana)

Stylevana KBeauty Review Jigott Real Ampoule Mask, Frudia Blueberry Hydration Mask, Labiotte Wine Lip Tint, Logically Skin Aquatide Resurface Serum, Chica Y Chico One Shot Eye Palette

This product was sent to me for review purposes. I was not paid for this post but please note that there is an affiliate code advertised.

New products and deliveries are always so exciting for me – so yes, I was super keen when this package from Stylevana arrived. I was starting to feel overwhelmed for a while but since pulling back on my spending and on some PR in the past few months, it’s given me more of a chance to enjoy what I do (and work at my own pace).

This haul is a new collaboration for me! Stylevana is an online store that specialises in Asian beauty – they carry products from Korea, Japan and even Taiwan. The latter two are less talked about because they’re harder to access online, so I’m glad that there’s a new source for them! Aside from the big range of products, Stylevana also offers free shipping for orders over USD$55.

From now until the end of November, you can also get 10-15% off your order with my code INF10STELLAR (excluding weekend deals and instant offers since they are already on sale).

So, read on if you’re keen to see what I received! I’ll be putting my initial thoughts into this post rather that full on reviews (especially for the Logically, Skin Serum) since I think that I’ll need to use that much more extensively to give proper insight. Here goes!

Review: Tonight Goodnight Kit (Missha)

Missha Tonight Goodnight Kit Kbeauty Review

This product was sent to me by StyleKorean for review purposes. I was not paid for this post but please note that affiliate links are used on my blog. These go towards supporting Oh My Stellar and future content.

To be very honest, pretty packaging sucks me in every time and this Missha Tonight Goodnight Kit caught my eye for that exact reason – with an absolutely stunning purple design, it’s even cuter in this set pack. Of course, it’s even better now that I’ve tested it out and can confidently say that these are brilliant products! If you’re looking for a present, this is it.

In this review, I’ll be giving you some general information on the kit as well as a detailed on each product. You can buy them in this set, which is available on StyleKorean, for USD$30 (discounted from USD$60).

Alternatively, you can also pick up the products by themselves – there is the Tonight Brilliance Boosting Essence, Tonight Brilliance Oil in Cream and also the Tonight Brilliance Lip Balm. The lip balm isn’t included in this kit so I haven’t been able to try it out – but it’s heck cute!

Check these out at StyleKorean but, before you do, let’s get into this review!
