Christmas has just passed us but I have one more post to write about the MAC x Patrickstarrr collaboration so I’m speeding through it tonight! I’m sure that these will be available for a little while longer but they’re definitely limited to the Christmas season, so you’ll need to rush in to get these before they’re totally gone.
These are from the fourth and final collaboration with Youtube star (and incredible make up artist) Patrick Starr – Sleigh Ride, perfectly red and shimmery for this holiday season. The full collection includes three lipsticks, five dazzleglass shades, two eyeshadow palettes, three loose pigments, a mineralise skinfinish and the hyped patrick’s powder. Naturally, I wanted to get everything but I’m on a mission not to spend my life’s savings so I cut it down to what I love the best from MAC Cosmetics – their bullet lipsticks!
I got myself two out of the three shades from the collection and they’re honestly so perfect for me! Here we have Spank Me Santa and Slay Ride – a dusty rose brown and a bright pinkish red. I’ve been wearing them obsessively since I got them so, click on for photos, swatches and a review of my two new favourite shades!
This product and shade matching experience was offered to me as part of MAC Cosmetics’s Lipstick campaign. I was not paid for this post and affiliate links are not used in this post.
MAC Cosmetics is so well known for their lipstick formulas that – to be honest – I don’t think there are any beauty junkies out there that haven’t tried them at least once; or if there are, there’s very few. When I was younger and just starting to experiment with make up, mostly using it for singing performances, MAC Cosmetics was a brand that I really idolised. I loved the colours and their professional, ‘cool girl’ image.
So, I’m pretty over the moon about the fact that they’ve given me the opportunity to work with them again. This will be my second time already, with the first being their Studio Fix Fluid Foundation Campaign, and this is actually even more perfect for me. I got my first high end lipstick to MAC Cosmetics (#Dubonnet) and, after all these years, I still have that same sense of excitement when I explore their massive range. I’ve since found a bunch of shades that I love from their range and also retired some old favourites of mine (why did I ever wear a bright pink lipstick?), but the one thing that I haven’t found yet is my perfect nude lipstick.
I never actually wear nude lipsticks (only somewhat neutral shades) because I haven’t been able to find anything that doesn’t fully wash me out. But, when it comes to MAC, there is legit something for everyone, so it’s impossible to be disappointed.
So, let’s get into some photos of the Paddington MAC Pro Store store, which is where I went to find my perfect lipstick shade, as well as some things that I’ve learnt about their range and offerings.
To be honest, I was seriously deliberating on whether or not to write this review – not because I am hesitant about this product (in fact, this might be the best thing I bought this entire holiday season) but because I just can’t catch the product in a photo properly! I have tried videos, multiple different lights and swatching techniques… nothing. Even the official image doesn’t do it justice, in my opinion.
Instead I am just writing this review to let you know about this product and my thoughts on it. I have my own swatches down below, but also check out Temptalia’s swatch – which is the only almost accurate one I have found.
So this is the MAC Cosmetics Holiday 2018 release from the Pretty Little Things collection – the Extra Dimension Skinfinish in the shade Snowflushed. This is especially popular as it’s been coined a dupe for last year’s limited edition Stylishly Merry eyeshadow (except in a highlighter form, of course) – it was sold out in most stores, if not all! When my local store finally had a restock, I managed to get my hands on this before it even went out on shelves – and I have no regrets.
As of right now, it is restocked online – so jump on quick!
A few weeks ago, I was lucky to be invited to the MAC Cosmetics Sydney Broadway store as part of their #EveryShadeOfYou campaign – to celebrate 25 years of their Studio Fix Fluid foundation in Australia, which now boasts a wide range of fifty shades for Every Shade Of You.
It was a fairly easy afternoon for me and I had a great time at the MAC Cosmetics store. I went in with almost no make up (save for sunscreen) and got matched to a few different foundation shades, then learnt how to use some of their other products. Aside from testing out their foundation, their make up artist also complemented the make up with a selection of products from their line to create my ideal finish. I went for a glowing, highlighted finish to suit my combination skin (and love for a natural radiance) so also got to learn about a couple of other products.
So, I’ll first show you guys some photos I got of the store (Why is MAC always so sleek and beautiful? Entering their store is always like jumping into some sort of dimensional warp) before going into the products that I picked up, my thoughts on them and some tips and tricks I learnt on how to achieve my perfect glowing complexion.
With the end of August approaching, I decided to start a new series on my blog! This is my ‘Want (Don’t) Need’ series, which is essentially where I talk about different products that have caught my eye and that I want to buy – usually new releases or new to me. I’ll also briefly discuss a few products that I have decided to pass on for now, whether it is because the formula isn’t meant for my skin type/tone or because I have repeats in my own collection – that is, I don’t need it.
Aside from helping me to analyse my own shopping habits, because I have a big problem when it comes to buying make up and skincare, I hope that these posts will also help you to decide what products that you want to try out too! Remember that I haven’t personally tried out any of these, so these posts are not reviews. If a product is in my Don’t Need list, that doesn’t mean that it’s bad or that it isn’t worth checking out – it just means that, for whatever reason, I have decided I don’t personally need it in my collection.
And so, there is no better time to start this because my birthday is at the beginning of September! I’ll be letting myself splurge a little bit on treats for myself so it’s good to get thoughts down. I have been trying to limit my spending lately so there’s quite a few things I have my eyes on.
