Diary: Urban Decay x Mecca Maxima | Beauty Boot Camp

A few weeks ago, I received an invitation to a Beauty Boot Camp, held by Mecca Maxima and Urban Decay! This is one of the first official PR events that I’ve been invited to and, when I got the invite, I was so excited that I may have squeaked a little – I was also kind of convinced that I got the invite by accident (and I am still convinced about this) so I was pretty nervous in the weeks leading up. Excited, but also nervous. I wasn’t sure of what to expect and, since I am a fairly keep-to-myself sort of person, I also wasn’t sure that I would know anyone there.

But, I had such a great time today (yes, I am writing this the very night) and I came out of the event not only more informed about Urban Decay as a brand, but also very inspired by the beauty and content creation talks – aside from Steve K (the global make up artist for UD), we also heard from one of the Mecca social media team members about content creation and curation for Instagram and a YouTube team member about creating a successful channel and engaging videos. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos of the latter too (as I was much too busy trying to take in the information), I did make sure to document the wonderful event and get a few photos of Steve!

So, keep reading for some information on the Urban Decay brand, what they mean to me and some photos of the day!

New Release: Too Faced 20th Anniversary & Born This Way Super Coverage Concealer (Mecca)

Too Faced Born This Way Multi Use Sculpting Concealer 20th Anniversary Palette Mecca

Sometimes, I feel like I came into the make up game way late because there are brands like Too Faced that feel so new to me, and yet I find out that they’ve been around for twenty years already! For those who don’t know, the brand launched in 1998 so this is their twenty year anniversary. To celebrate it, they have launched a 20th birthday collection – which is excitingly coming to Mecca from tomorrow! In addition to it, they are also bringing out a new Born This Way Concealer, which has been really hyped up online.

The full 20th birthday collection consists of eight Metallic Sparkle Lipsticks, a special repackaging of the Better than Birthday Sex mascara, and their Then and Now Eyeshadow Palette – the latter which has been teased online for quite a while and I’m excited to finally see it! Rather than cover the entire collection, since I’m sure you’re going to click onto the Mecca website anyway, I want to give you guys a look into the two products that I’m most excited about!

Review: Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow (Stila)

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow Beauty Review

Every time that I try to tell someone about how much I love the Stila Magnificent Metals, I always get frustrated that photos can’t capture the real beauty of these. I have three at the moment – only two of which are photographed here because I took these photos ages ago and just haven’t gotten around to writing this post – but I’m really wanting to get more of them. They’re a liquid eyeshadow, a formula that I don’t usually reach for, but they’re also super easy to work to, dries down well and have a great range of colours and finishes. They have the Shimmer & Glow, which is more of a metallic satin but I’ve been leaning towards the Glitter & Glow because they’re packed full of glitter and duo-chrome beauty.

In Australia, these are selling at Mecca for AUD$35, or if you’re living elsewhere, they are available on the Stila website for USD$24. As with the Mecca Price Promise (though I know there are certain brands that set their own RRP and aren’t under this) the pricing here is actually very close to the American when you take into account tax and exchange rates. That being said, AUD$35 is still quite a lot of money to spend on a single liquid eyeshadow but I just want to share a quick review on why I love these, why I’ll continue to invest in them and who I would recommend to also check them out.

And… here’s for the review!

Review: Heavy Metals Palette (Urban Decay)

Urban Decay Heavy Metals Palette Review

I am a sucker for Urban Decay and I have been for so many years, ever since I got the Naked2 palette (one of my first higher end palettes every). Personally, I love their brand image – strong, bold and daring – and I am, of course, also a big fan of their new model Ruby Rose and so I’ve basically fawned over every release. This is a palette that isn’t yet available in Australia but will be selling at Mecca from the 26th of December (or so I’ve been told), otherwise you can also get them online.

This is their Heavy Metals palette and it is a limited edition release for the holidays. It is absolutely my favourite release this holiday and, if you were only to buy one product, I would highly recommend to check this out. It is an all metallic palette and actually conceptually reminds me a little of the Moondust palette – only these work really well without a wet brush too and there is much less fall out and glitter. The idea of this palette is that it has some bold, party shades but also neutrals that are suitable for every day wear. A lot of people tend to keep metallics and shimmers only for special occasions, but this palette plays on the idea that ‘heavy metal’ colours are for every one and every day.

So, let’s finish with me talking about this and go right into the palette!

Review: Fingerpen (16Brand)

Sixteen 16 Brand Fingerpen Review

These Fingerpens were everywhere in Korea but, annoyingly enough, the shading colour that I wanted was sold out everywhere that I went. I was actually worried that I would only be able to buy the highlighter and not the other shades. I ended up buying these from two or maybe even three different Watsons stores in both Seoul and Jeonju – that’s how desperate I was. I went in knowing that I wanted to buy them though because I saw the brand’s launch on Instagram and these products looked amazing. 16Brand is launched by one of Korea’s top make up artists, Jo Sung Ah, who is also the genius behind LUNA and ChoSungAh22. The brand is the sister brand on the latter, so you can understand why I was on board so quickly.

She has a thing for quirky, trendy make up products that both look amazing and are good for the skin. I wasn’t at all surprised by the launch of these Fingerpens, which are interesting multi-purpose products that have a creamy and hydrating formula. There is a really wide range of colours but I chose to get just the shading, highlight and a shimmer for now. In retrospect, I kind of wish that I got more of these but I was at first unsure of how the pinks would blend as blushes. I am also not very comfortable using a face product on my lips, as I feel it won’t have the same functionalities that are needed. Regardless, they were all really pretty and these products blend like a dream, so would have been a great, versatile product to have in my collection.
