Review: Kill Cover Liquid Founwear Cushion Fall Pack (Clio Professional)

RoseRoseShop Haul Review Clio Professional Kbeauty Korean Cosmetics Makeup BB Cream Foundation Cushion Kill Cover

You guys have probably seen this cushion featured a number of times on my instagram and finally, I’m going to be doing a review! This is from my previous RoseRoseShop haul and is actually a product that I received incorrectly – they have since replaced and sent me the correct Ampoule Cushion to me. However, this doesn’t mean that I can’t test it out, of course.

The package come in a relatively large box and contained a refill and a primer (the pink bottle) in addition to the cushion and a sponge (one sponge, no extra). I was quite impressed with the packaging because it was very sturdy and it looked really classy, and I don’t expect much less from Clio, to be honest. It was the first time that I saw the refill in the form of a bottle though so, when it’s time for a refill, I’ll definitely let people know how I go with that.

Please note that, although I am linking back to RoseRoseShop, this is not a sponsored review and I bought this product with my own money as part of my previous massive (and a little bit irresponsible) haul.

Gong Hyo Jin (공효진) is the model for Clio – evidenced because we see her using their products in all of her dramas. I really love her as an actress and It’s Okay That’s Love was one of my favourite dramas ever. She has a very mature and classy aura to her, which suits the Clio brand. To be honest, I don’t really see her as a – goddess – type like we might consider someone like Suzy or Yoona, but I do think she’s got a great appeal. I don’t think they will be changing their model soon, Gong Hyo Jin and the Kill Brow is practically iconic.

For packaging and aesthetics, I have to rate the Kill Cover Cushion pretty highly. It’s a very sturdy compact, though a little on the heavy side. I love the beige and black combination as well with a focus on the typography. Comparing it to brands like Etude House or even Innisfree, I think that Clio products have more of a luxurious feel – the type that you wouldn’t hesitate on pulling out when you’re at a high end event or even on set of a photoshoot.

I love poking at fresh cushions! Just look at how perfectly saturated that is. Of course, the first thing that I noticed is that I bought a shade too light for myself. This is the Lingerie shade (lighest available) so I think that the Linen shade would have suited me more, although this is still usable. Since I’m used to using BB Cream cushions, I often buy a shade lighter for myself in order to let the base oxide and blend into my skin tone. This is, generally, my trick for how to brighten up the under eye and overall complexion without weighing myself down with concealer.

So, as a note, Clio Liquid Founwear Cushion is a foundation and generally will not oxide into your skin (not much anyway). It does, however, give very good coverage and has good lasting power. It’s actually been many years since I wore foundation so the formula was a little thicker than I’m used to. In order to counteract that, and the fact that I am simply not this light, I often apply this with a beauty blender instead of a cushion. I find that it gives me better control over how much product I use.

So that’s how it looks on my hand. Blended out properly, the colour does work better though it is when you are accidentally a little too heavy handed (like myself) that you start to look ghostly. As I had expected from the product, it is a little too thick and drying for my tastes. Although it is said to promise a dewy finish, I find that it isn’t very suitable for me in this dry, Winter weather. I haven’t tried the primer beneath it though, for the reason that I like to use more moisturising products to prime and fewer layers on my skin in the winter.

The coverage is definitely good though and the cushion type means that it is easy to blend into my face. I find that, with a lighter application than my usual use, it still gives a very even and pretty finish.

SO WHAT IS IT?

A semi-matte finish foundation air cushion with medium to high coverage.

THE GOOD

  • Beautiful packaging
  • Little to no scent
  • High coverage
  • Sturdy compact
  • Long lasting
  • Free primer (with this special set)

THE BAD

  • Slightly drying
  • No spare sponge (I’m terrible at washing them; this is a potential deal breaker for me)

WOULD I REPURCHASE?

I like the coverage but think that it may be too drying for my skin – perhaps even a little matte. I had had these suspicions before I placed the order though, hence why I had bought the ampoule version instead. I’m a big fan of dewy finishes and hate, hate drying out my skin so I don’t think I would repurchase this exact compact.

Spoiler alert though: I have very different thoughts about the ampoule version 😉

HELPFUL TIP

A little goes a long way! Do thinner lawyers with less product so you can build up on areas where you need more coverage but still keep a pretty, natural finish.
