Review: Lip Sleeping Mask (Laneige)

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask BB Cosmetic Kbeauty

Honestly, I first saw this Lip Sleeping Mask online and then in store when I was in Korea and I did want to try it (because it smells amazing) but it’s taken me so long to do this just because I wasn’t convinced that this would be an interesting product. In my eyes, I figured that it just looked like glorified Vaseline, and I’m not even a fan of Vaseline (which is basically petroleum oil jellied) except for in desperately dry times. However, when I was going through BB Cosmetic‘s website, I figured that I might as well give it a shot!

At the moment, they carry four different versions: Berry (the original one), Grapefruit, Apple and Vanilla (which are from the holiday release). I was pretty keen to try all of them, to be honest, but considering that BB Cosmetic were going to generously send me them for review, I chose the original Berry one – and will probably purchase the others at a later date just for the different scents.

Read on for my thoughts!

The lip sleeping mask comes in a very similar packaging to their sleeping mask (which is one of my favourites), giving me the idea that these two are meant to be used together. I’m currently out of my sleeping mask but I have another unopened back up so I might open that up soon just so I can use them as a set.

Either way, I love the quality of the packaging. It had a matte finish and although it’s really simple, the quality of it gives a luxe feel – which makes sense considering that Laneige isn’t exactly a cheap brand.

According to the BB Cosmetic website, this product (which is 20g in size) contains a Vitamin C rich ‘Berry Mix Complex’ (with raspberry, strawberry, cranberry and blueberry extracts) as well as a ‘Moisture Wrap’ – both of these are trademarked to Laneige. The Moisture wrap is a ‘hyaluronic acid mineral network [that] forms a moisturizing film to help lock-in active ingredients and the skin to absorb and retain moisture through the night.’

So the Lip Sleeping Mask comes in a little tub with a twist off cap – it’s basically a smaller version of the normal sleeping mask but in pink. The other scents have different corresponding colours (like Orange, Green and Beige) but I really like pink. The product is also pink. I don’t know if the other versions are also different colours but I would assume so.

Unfortunately, my poor mask had a bit of a hot time getting here and it must have melted a bit during transit. The packaging was really secure though and there was zero leakage or damage, but it just means that the product settled on the side a little interestingly for me.

The lip sleeping mask also comes a soft silicon applicator – which is a bit like a spatula. When applying it, you can use your fingers but I prefer to use this applicator instead. Aside from being more hygienic, it also helps you to apply a thicker layer, which gives you much better results. I suspect that people who don’t like this product are only applying thinly, which gives you more of a lip balm effect than anything.

And above is the product on my hand. It’s pretty greasy on skin, naturally, but it’s meant to be a lip product. I don’t know why I didn’t take a lip swatch for this, to be honest – maybe because I’m a little self conscious of how I look.

The product smells amazing! It has a very sweet and fruity scent that isn’t overwhelming at all. When it’s applied, it layers over your lips like you would envision a mask and it mostly sits on top and slowly absorbs through the night. In the morning, I always wake up with perfect results. I especially like to use it when I’ve been using a lot of lip make up (which I do very often) and my lips end up chapped and cracked.

Overall, this is a really great product. It’s effective, easy to use and it’s much gentler than using a sugar scrub – I end up using this almost every night, and a sugar scrub maybe once a week or two. Although I do apply the product pretty thick, there’s so much in the tub that one of these would last me quite a long time too. It has a masking appearance though (i.e the ‘Moisture Wrap’), so this isn’t something you can wear during the day and pass it off as lip balm.

However, this ‘Moisture Wrap’ is definitely my favourite attribute of this product and the main reason why I conclude that it is an essential in my evening routine – yes, this is not glorified Vaseline and I think that everyone should try it out. This helps the product to really absorb throughout the night and is the main reason why the Lip Sleeping Mask is so effective! It’s a visible wrapping effect – when you first apply, and when you look for the results.

Here’s the verdict everyone, and you can assume it’s very positive.

WHAT IS IT?

A lip sleeping mask to melt away dry skin and rehydrate the lips.

  • Plenty of product
  • Smells amazing
  • ‘Moisture Wrap’ technology is very effective
  • Consistently great results in the morning

THE BAD

  • A bit expensive for a lip product (but won’t break the bank)
  • Must be applied thickly

  • SCENT | 5/5

OVERALL RATING? 9/10

WOULD I RECOMMEND?

Yes! I absolutely love this product and I will be implementing it permanently into my evening routine (but open to trying out different lip masks – and the other versions, of course). Although it is a bit expensive for a lip product, the price point is still decent and I would recommend everyone give this a good go to understand why it is so raved about.
