Review: Magic Kitten & Ice Cream Masks from I Dew Care

As someone who’s been deeply consumed in the beauty community for quite a few years now, I’ve seen a lot of brands make a big splash on socials. One of these is I Dew Care, Memebox’s in-house skincare brand thats been super well-known for their playful, fun packaging concepts and unique formulas. I’d actually had my eye on them for a long time but could only look from a distance as they weren’t available in Australia yet… but it seems that StyleKorean has once again answered my call!

Shipping almost worldwide, a wide range of I Dew Care products are now available on StyleKorean. They are a cruelty-free brand and, whilst I’m not sure if it’s their entire range, these that I’m trying are also vegan, gluten free and comes in FSC packaging – so they’re doing all the good things.

I got my hands on the Disco Kitten and Space Kitten masks, as well as their Mini Scoops pack (containing three mini masks). Head over to the StyleKorean website to check out the range but otherwise, let’s chat about what these are!

Magic Chrome Mask – Disco Kitten and Space Kitten

These Magic Chrome Masks are peel-off masks with a fun, metallic chrome colour. I’m testing out two of them but there are actually three in the range – Disco Kitten, Space Kitten and Sugar Kitten. All are available individually or in the Mini Meow Trio, which contains mini size masks.

As for the full sizes, the Disco Kitten and Space Kitten masks are available on StyleKorean for USD$24.70 (on sale from USD$27.50). Aside from the colour, they actually have different functionalities too – see below:

Disco Kitten Illuminating Diamond Peel-Off Mask

This is an illuminating mask that claims to reveal a brighter, clearer complexion. It contains soothing oat extract and exfoliating gem powder for a lit from within glow. Some of the key ingredients include:

Diamond Powder: Helps replenish skin for a softer and more visible even skin tone
White Water Lily Extract: Helps relieve skin irritation
Turnip Leaf Extract: Rich in minerals, this is also a natural illuminating ingredient

Space Kitten Exfoliating Charcoal Peel-Off Mask (T-Zone Only)

One of their strongest peel-off masks, this formula is intended for the t-zone only. It has an exfoliating formula that is infused with charcoal, sapphire, and diamond powder, along with a fun royal blue glitter, and works to reveal a brighter complexion. Key ingredients include:

Charcoal: Absorbs sebum, impurities and whiteheads
Volcanic Ash: For exfoliation, sebum control and pore cleansing
Sapphire Powder: To brighten and exfoliate
Moringa Seed Oil: Works to purify and provide a barrier against environmental stressors

Packaging

These masks come housed in FSC packaging – the unit carton is made from a simple cardboard, colour coded to be black or white. It features bold, silver foil typography and has an overall futuristic graphic appeal. I love the logo on the top of the box, as well as the full colour – it makes the product easy to distinguish. Overall, this has a fun, trendy vibe which is totally on brand for I Dew Care.

Opening it up, the tubs are again colour coded. The Disco Kitten packaging is white with a matte silver print, whilst Space Kitten is black with a reflective silver print. The quality of the plastic is quite nice and secure too – I don’t think I would be concerned about spillage at all. Overall, the packaging is nice and I like the visual design of them. However, it isn’t anything too extravagant so I don’t have too much to comment on really.

Personal Experiences

I had fun using these masks, though find that they’re not much different to the other peel off masks that I’ve used. The metallic colour is fun and the formula takes around 15 minutes to dry. It has a thick, gel consistency and you can use your fingers or a silicone brush to apply – I have another one that I use, but you can also check out I Dew Care’s Silicone Mask Brush too. There’s a very slight scent for both when you first open the product, but it’s not really noticeable on application.

Once it’s dried, the mask is fairly easy to peel off. As with all peel off masks, I would recommend to stay away from more sensitive areas (under the eyes, for example). Aside from that though, it’s not painful and I was able to get most of it off in one go.

Disco Kitten Illuminating Diamond Peel-Off Mask: This left my skin feeling smooth and more even. However, I don’t think that I actually saw too much in terms of relieving skin irritation or illuminating benefits. In fact, my skin felt a bit dry afterwards, so I followed up with a mist and moisturiser. The scent for this is difficult to describe; it’s somewhat of a refreshing scent.
Space Kitten Exfoliating Charcoal Peel-Off Mask: This is more along the lines of what I’m used to using and it has a fairly standard charcoal scent. This is good for people with a more oily skin type, as it helps with sebum control and exfoliating dead skin cells – however, I have to note that this is not a pore strip, and isn’t strong enough to pull out black heads.

All on all, these are fun to use and would be something that I’d incorporate into my skincare routine every now and then. However, I don’t really consider these a skincare must-have and would actually prefer to invest into their other masks (keep reading).

THOUGHTS? As I mentioned earlier, these are fun but not necessarily staples in my skincare routine. Out of the two, the Space Kitten Exfoliating Charcoal Peel-Off Mask is more of a traditional peel-off mask. However, the price point is a bit high and I would probably go back to the Elizavecca Hell Pore Clean Up Mask instead (which is a super strong formula – it’s an oldie, but a classic).

Mini Scoops Mask Set

In contrast to the futuristic peel off masks, I Dew Care‘s ice cream range is all about fun textures, pastel colours and dessert-inspired scents. The range includes three wash-off masks along with a cleansing balm, but I’ll be talking about the masks only. All of them are available individually, but the Mini Scoops set gives you the best of (almost) all worlds, containing mini tubs of the three masks. When it comes to value, the full sizes are much better, but this is a good option if you’re indecisive or have sensitive skin and would prefer to test the formulas out first.

These set is available at StyleKorean for USD$21.50 (on sale from USD$24) or you can pick up the full size products for around USD$25-USD$26 (on sale from USD$28-USD$29).

The three formulas included are:

Berry Groovy: A brightening formula containing glycolic acid, antioxidant-rich raspberry extract and exfoliating strawberry seeds, working to help revitalise and brighten dull skin. It also has a smooth, gelato-like texture and a berry scent.
Matcha Mood: Also with a smooth, sorbet texture, this green tea scent mask works to calm, soothe and refresh stressed complexions. It contains green tea extract (to soothe and revitalise), aloe extract (to calm and balance) and glacier water (to refresh and hydrate).
Cake My Day: Probably the most unique wash off mask I’ve ever seen, this birthday cake inspired mask has a yummy cake scent with a soft-serve like texture. It contains hydrating rainbow sprinkles, hyaluronic acid (nourishes and plumps), squalene (deep hydration and moisture retention) and glacier water (refresh and hydrate).

Packaging

The Mini Scoops set also uses FSC packaging. The product comes in a soft, pastel coloured unit carton, featuring a gradient design and a fun typographic design. Since these are all mini products, the packaging is very simple, but the quality is a good standard.

Opening it up, you will find that the three masks are again colour coded – which makes it easy to differentiate them. They have a fun print on the lid, featuring the I Dew Care logo (the cute, winky face) and a sprinkles design. It’s lightweight and the lid screws on securely, making this a good travel option. I’ll actually be keeping these tubs afterwards for decanting.

Overall, I think the design of the Mini Scoops mask set is cute! If you are looking to buy these as a gift, I would recommend these for a younger crowd, maybe from teenage to early twenties.

Personal Experiences

So I loved the look of the Mini Scoops set – I thought the packaging was really cute and it’s great to be able to try out all three of the masks, since they’re actually very different. There was a good range of textures, scents and skin benefits too. However, the downside is that these tubs are pretty small and they don’t actually contain a lot of product – I get around 2-3 uses out of each, depending on how much I apply. If you’re looking for value, the full sizes are definitely a lot better (but again, there’s so many options that maybe it’s worth buying this just to make sure you get the right mask for your skin type… I’m two minded).

Since there wasn’t enough product for me to use these masks long term, I can only speak on my immediate thoughts:

Berry Groovy: This had my favourite scent! The immediate effects do a good job of moisturising my skin, as well as generally evening out my skin tone. There was a slight brightening benefit, but overall I think that requires more long term use.
Matcha Mood: This has a similar texture to the berry mask, but it’s even smoother. It has a yummy green tea ice cream scent and did a good job of calming my skin as well as giving it a boost of hydration.
Cake My Day: This is a bit silkier than the previous two, and it also has small rainbow ‘sprinkles’. The scent is very sweet and fun but, compared to the other two, this one feels the most gimmicky. It hydrates skin but doesn’t do a lot otherwise.

THOUGHTS? The main downside to this would definitely be the size – I feel like you should be getting more product for the price and in order to properly test out the masks. That being said, this would still be a good option if you have sensitive skin or want to try them out before deciding which to buy.

In terms of the masks though, they really smell amazing and the immediate results have potential! It’s hard to me to decide if I really love them until I try them for longer though. So far, Berry Groovy and Matcha Mood has caught my attention.
