I was a pretty big fan of Moonshot when they first launched – they were so different to other k-beauty brands at the time and I was a huge YG Entertainment fan too, so they caught my attention right away. Over the years though, it felt like they had lost their original high fashion flair and I really missed the old Moonshot vibes… I was really excited when I found out that they had just gone through a re-brand! I first found out about this via Edward Avila, then rushed to see whether these products were available on StyleKorean yet.
And they are!
I think that rebrand had revived what Moonshot used to be all about – trendsetting, playful and unafraid to stand out. Some of their older products are still available on StyleKorean but I think that Moonshot has essentially started afresh.
The new (first) collection is called ‘Backstage.’ It consists of four key products but I’ll be reviewing the two that are available on StyleKorean – the Performance Cushion Light Fixing and two of their Performance Eye 8X Palettes (to come in a later review)
Product Description
The Moonshot Performance Cushion Light Fixing is a semi-matte foundation cushion that claims to have a lightweight, non-sticky texture. It is recommended for combination and oily skin types.
This cushion is also available in six shades. They don’t expand too much from the usual Korean foundation tones, but took into consideration many of the subtle nuances in East Asian skin tones – as their intention is to cover that range within the Asian market.

Some key ingredients include:
- 6 types of ceramides to hydrate with a strong natural moisturising factor
- Collagen to enhance skin elasticity

Packaging
The packaging is actually super unique and I don’t believe I’ve ever seen this style in k-beauty before. The cushion compact has a square shape with curved sides, made from a matte finish translucent blue plastic. The contrast of the blue with the red logo (on both the compact and the unit carton) is very modern and striking – love that!
The interior is made of an opaque plastic is a matching blue. The mirror is, unfortunately, somewhat narrow as it was limited by the compact design. There is an included rubycell puff with somewhat rubbery back (meaning the blue won’t stain over time) and a unique pointed tip shape. This makes it easier to reach small areas around the nose.
Overall, I really like the look and aesthetics of the packaging but, truthfully, it isn’t the most practical. The compact is quite bulky – a stark contrast to most other k-beauty brands working to make their cushions slimmer. It’s a shame about the mirror too. I can still use it but I always prefer to maximise the space.
Personal Experiences
Regardless of the impractical packaging, I loved using this cushion! Past Moonshot cushions have felt pretty heavy but this was very lightweight – it’s barely noticeable on skin. The semi-matte finish is flattering and does a pretty good job of smoothing out pores and texture. I would consider this a medium coverage – it will hide most pigmentation, but I still have some spots that need a concealer.
Longevity wise, this cushion wears well over time and doesn’t really cake. I always lightly powder, but find that it still lasts even without a setting spray.
Since I started using this, I’m reaching for this cushion all the time! Here’s a tip for application –
HOW TO APPLY: Use the back of the puff holder (the blue cap) as a ‘palette’ to dab off the excess product. Applying in thin layers and small sections gives the most natural finish.

THOUGHTS?
The formula of this cushion is, in my opinion, soo much better than their older cushions! I love how it wears and how light the formula feels – it’s definitely a good fit for my combination skin.
The packaging is a bit bulky, but it has potential! I actually really liked the look of the new packaging design at first – it was different and fresh – but I think they can develop this style whilst still maintaining a more compact form.
If you love a natural finish, lightweight cushion that wears well through the day – especially on oily/combination skin types, then I would definitely recommend checking this out!
