Okay so I finally tried this rubber mask out after staring at it in intimidation for the past week or two and, I swear, I am ready to stock myself up because I love this product so much! I have had a bad experience with a rubber mask in the past, where I took so long to try and combine the product that it solidified before I could use it, so I was really cautious about this. That being said, I think that I actually didn’t mix this up as evenly as I should have but it was still ridiculously effective. This product has honestly blown me away and I can’t wait to share it with you all.
So, this is the Shake & Shot Rubber Soothing Mask from Dr.Jart+, a Korean brand that has since also become very popular and trusted overseas. I personally haven’t tried anything from their brand before but I know that they’re especially popular for their skincare range, which is meant to be suitable for even sensitive skin and – of course – highly effective. Their rubber masks, which have that iconic creepy baby face, also went viral on Youtube and you’ll probably find reviews on it easily!
Their products can be a bit expensive, especially when you’re trying to buy their products overseas, but this mask is currently on sale at StyleKorean for USD$6.16. The full price is USD$12.35 and, to be honest, it is pretty expensive for a one use mask. However, it is really effective so I might still use these on special occasions. Or when my skin really needs it.
Update: This mask is now retailing on the StyleKorean website for the full price of USD$8 and they often have sales too – absolutely an improvement!
So, let’s jump right in!
Brand
You can find more information about how the Dr.Jart+ brand was started on their official website, but it was essentially started by two people – Dr Jung, a dermatologist who ran his own clinic in Seoul, and the entrepreneur, Mr Lee. Their aim was to develop a skincare company that brought Dr Jung’s knowledge and passion outside of the clinic and into a wider audience. Since then, their team was definitely grown and, according to their website:
Dr. Jart works closely with a group of 15 dermatologists from 15 different clinics. Each at the forefront of dermatological research, all work privately with patients as well as in collaboration at research universities.
All of these dermatologists are even listed on their website in full name, that is how proud they are. It is also said that Dr Jung has patented eight new inventions, including curing aids and laser therapy tools. While it isn’t directly related to the brand, all of this comes together to paint the image of a company that is truely passionate about what they do and developing great products to benefit their audience.
Product Description & Claims
The Shake & Shot Rubber Soothing Mask is an at-home DIY modelling mask that, essentially, forms a sort of rubber layer over your face as it dries. This is a common treatment that they do in beauty clinics and salons, but not many people do it otherwise. The great part of this specific product, from my observation, is that it’s very compacted and easy to use – it contains everything you could need to make and apply the mask. Once you’re done, you can simple throw out the entire package without having to worry about mess and cleaning.
The mask comes in four variations – Soothing, Hydration, Firming and Luminous. StyleKorean had sent me two of them but I decided to try out the soothing one first because my skin had been flaring up with some irritation lately. I wasn’t too sure what to do about it, because this isn’t a skin problem that I usually have, so I figured that this would be the best way to test it.
The Soothing Mask claims to ‘infuse[s] skin with potent actives to smooth for a healthy, dewy-looking complexion’ and to be a solution for dryness, redness/irritation and blemishes. It, the others, are all formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates.

This soothing mask calms and repairs the complexion. The ampoule contains Vitamin K3 (menadione) and a soothing botanical complex to calm irritated skin. Just shake it up and give sensitive skin a soothing shot.
Dr.Jart uses the same “rubber mask” technique found in high-end Korean spas to achieve equivalent high-performance results—without the fuss of mixing a traditional modeling pack. The innovative cream-to-sheet formula penetrates skin more deeply than a sheet mask to deliver high-potency active ingredients. Each freshly-made mask penetrates skin surface to deliver the benefits your skin needs most quickly and effectively.
The main three ingredients are as below:
- Vitamin K3 (menadione): Comfortably restores sensitive skin with a soothing effect.
- Guava Leaf Extract: Rich in antioxidant vitamins that provide a protective, regeneration effect.
- Aloe Vera Leaf Extract: Provides an excellent cooling and soothing benefit.
Packaging
One of the biggest selling points of this mask is, technically, the packaging. Dr.Jart+ have really gained a reputation for their iconic ‘creepy baby’ face and – I have to say – I kind of love this. There’s something so strange and quirky about it. Some people might find it unsettling but, in my opinion, it makes them really stand out from the crowd. I wouldn’t want to be carrying around any cosmetics with this sort of packaging, but as an at-home thing, it’s pretty fun.
As I mentioned earlier, one of the benefits of this mask is how easy it is to use. I have had a bad experience with a modelling mask before where, in between looking for something to mix and combine it with, then struggling to actually mix and apply the product, the mask had actually hardened and become unusable. I was actually under the impression that rubber masks were very difficult to use.
But no, this is actually really easy!
The fun packaging makes it a bit for enjoyable for the user too but I just like that it has everything included in it. The cup and lid is good for combining the product, and can be thrown out after (or reused as a brush holder – I’m not judging!), the straw in the baby’s mouth is a spatula and the two components are packaging in satchels inside. The quality of the spatula is also really good. Since it is quite wide and flat, you can use it to smooth out the product over your face and to keep your hands (and the surface) relatively clean.
Overall, the packaging is both interesting, good quality and practical so I really like this! I think that it makes a fun gift, because it’s just so strange looking, but I would also really enjoy playing with it myself. A suggestion that I would have for them is if they can sell the masking satchels individually so that people actually can wash and reuse the cups/spatulas if they want to be more environmentally conscious because this is a lot of disposed plastic.
Application
I’m going to put these application instructions in straight form the website because it’s actually very straightforward.
- Open and remove the spatula from the lid.
- Combine both STEP 01 Super Booster and STEP 02 Liquid Ampoule in the cup.
- Close the lid, cover the hole with your finger, and shake well until fully mixed.
- Using the spatula, apply an even layer over entire face within two to three minutes (avoiding the eyes and mouth).
- Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Starting from the edges, gently peel off the mask.
- Remove any excess with a damp cotton cloth or pad.
- Follow with your skincare routine.
My only advice though:
- Try and really combine the product (I recommend using the spatula and not shaking too vigorously as it can spill) because I was in too much of a rush and my application was quite lumpy
- Apply generously and in thick layers. It will turn into a rubber gel. If you spread it out too thinly, the product actually sticks to your skin too much and dries out hard.
Personal Experience
I had a really easy time using this! I was actually really worried about it before; I asked StyleKorean to send two of them to me because I was actually worried that I would mess up and waste one (just like I did last time). However, this was just so easy.
As soon as I applied it to my skin, it felt really relaxing and cooling. The product took a few minutes to apply over my face fully – I was trying to layer it up so that it was thick, but didn’t want to put too much on immediately in case it would drip. However, once it was on, it was very mess free.
I left it on for twenty minutes in total and, while the mask had dried up, my skin didn’t feel like it was dehydrating at all. It still felt very cool and moist, and the mask was a little bit jelly-like to the touch. It peeled off easily and, although I accidentally got some in my brows, there was no issue there. Any excess I had down my neck, which was essentially thin and had no purpose, I just wiped off with a towel.
After taking this off, my skin felt so refreshed! All of the redness and irritation that I had was completely gone, my complexion was super hydrated and dewy looking too. I followed it up with a simplified skincare routine as I felt like I didn’t need anything heavy.
The next morning, my skin was still feeling very hydrated and fresh. Of course, the cooling sensation from the night before was gone, but the effectiveness was still there. It lasted for the rest of the day – around 24 hours of effectiveness. I think that continuous use of this mask will definitely improve your skintone. I saw such great results even from using it once so I now really want to continue!
And so, here’s the verdict!

WOULD I RECOMMEND?
Absolutely! I loved this mask so much that I’m already trying to figure out how I can bulk buy enough of these to use them at least once a week (without sending myself broke). The pricing of it is really good now with StyleKorean having their time deal, so it’s best to buy these on sale I think!
I have had such a great first experience with Dr.Jart+ and now I really understand why people trust their brand and rave about it so much. I’m definitely going to be trying more products from their line, especially more of these masks.
