To be very honest, pretty packaging sucks me in every time and this Missha Tonight Goodnight Kit caught my eye for that exact reason – with an absolutely stunning purple design, it’s even cuter in this set pack. Of course, it’s even better now that I’ve tested it out and can confidently say that these are brilliant products! If you’re looking for a present, this is it.

In this review, I’ll be giving you some general information on the kit as well as a detailed on each product. You can buy them in this set, which is available on StyleKorean, for USD$30 (discounted from USD$60).

Alternatively, you can also pick up the products by themselves – there is the Tonight Brilliance Boosting Essence, Tonight Brilliance Oil in Cream and also the Tonight Brilliance Lip Balm. The lip balm isn’t included in this kit so I haven’t been able to try it out – but it’s heck cute!

Check these out at StyleKorean but, before you do, let’s get into this review!

The Tonight Goodnight Kit is a three piece set – I’m not sure if it’s limited edition but I don’t think these sort of kits are usually permanent. The set contains the Tonight Brilliance Boosting Essence (individually available for USD$15, discounted from USD$30) and the Tonight Brilliance Oil in Cream (same price). In addition, the kit has an exclusive soft eye sleeping mask – which I’ll show you a bit more of below.

Price point wise, the value of this is essentially the same as an individual pack with the sleeping mask as an extra gift. If you’re purchasing it for yourself, it may be better to look into each of the products first – you won’t be missing out on too much by purchasing individually though the kit makes for a great gift.

Sleeping Beauty Eye Mask

So the Sleeping Beauty Eye Mask is really cute and it’s honestly the first time that I’ve actually wanted to use one of these. It has a cute crescent moon embroidery design and is made of a very soft velvet material. The underside is smooth and the elastic is also covered with a velvet fabric. It’s comfortable to wear, even if you’re not used to sleeping masks.

It’s a nice gift to include to the set, especially since the design is so well branded to suit this Tonight Brilliance range, but it isn’t something that I would buy if it were sold individually. The eye mask wouldn’t be enough of a ‘perk’ to get me to buy the kit, but I like it nonetheless.

Tonight Brilliance Boosting Essence | USD$15 (discounted from USD$30)

Out of this kit, the product that I was the most excited to try out was the Tonight Brilliance Boosting Essence. Aside from having legit the prettiest packaging, I’m also a huge fan of the Missha First Treatment Essence – which is an absolute cult favourite. Essences usually have a lightweight, watery texture and strong potency. Some people believe that the essence is actually the most important part of your skincare routine, and will give you the most visible results.

From the Missha website, this is described as a “brilliance and moisturizing essence infused with core protein in pearl”. Key ingredients include:

  • Panthenol: to deliver moisture
  • Ceramide NP: to hydrate
  • Pearl Protein (Hydrolyzed Conchiolin Protein): for skin radiance
  • Pearl Powder: for skin radiance

The essence has both anti-wrinkle and brightening benefits and also claims to restore skin’s original radiance and provide long-lasting moisture – up to 48 hours actually.

It also claims to reveal a translucent and radiant complexion through the use of Micro Technology (a process that “breaks down core protein into smaller particles to help offer maximum penetration of the ingredient beneath the skin”). The formula has a slightly pearlescent colour which comes from the pearl particles – not a cosmetic pigment.

Packaging

So, as I’ve said about a hundred times already, the packaging for this is absolutely stunning – and I think that a lot of people were actually drawn in by it. The Tonight Brilliant Boosting Essence comes in a 120mL plastic bottle, which is a bit smaller than their Time Revolution FTE but also significantly lighter. It has a gorgeous purple and pink gradient with a bit of translucency in the bottom – small details, but I love how to looks like the night sky. It really ties in to the ‘Goodnight Tonight’ theme on this range.

The quality of the bottle is really nice and the top screws on well too. It has a seal over the top instead of the resealable plastic cap though, so I’m not sure if it will be 100% secure for travel. Weight wise, it’s decent but I would personally recommend decanting this instead.

Overall, dispensing the product is easy. As with most essence products, the thin texture means that it’s easy to pour onto your palms or a cotton pad for application. The aesthetics, quality and usability here is great – Missha has killed it!

Personal Experiences

My first impression of this essence is that the scent is amazing – it’s an almost fruity scent that is neither too citrusy or floral; overall, it’s pleasant and I enjoy it a lot. It’s strong at first, in that you can smell it as soon as it’s dispensed, but is mostly not noticeable on application.

In comparison to the Time Revolution FTE, I think that the Tonight Brilliance Boosting Essence is more hydrating and with longer last effects. People with dry or dehydrated skin would especially love this! But that being said, I still really enjoyed this as someone with oily skin. It kept my skin hydrated and feeling fresh, without any greasiness or heaviness.

Although this formula is targeted for night time use, I actually ended up using this essence both morning and night. It’s a great start to my day!

Missha Tonight Brilliance Boosting Essence Kbeauty Review

All in all, I really loved this essence and I daresay it may be better than the Time Revolution! Aside from the hydration benefits, I loved the instant radiance that it gives my complexion (although I didn’t notice any longer term brightening). It’s fast absorbing with very long lasting effects and applies with no residue, making it perfect for layering up in the drier seasons.

Here’s the verdict!

SO WHAT IS IT?

A lightweight essence with long-lasting hydration benefits

OVERALL RATING? 9/10

THOUGHTS? I loved this so much and I really hope that it’s part of their permanent range! I think that I will continue to use this throughout the colder seasons and then switch over to the Time Revolution FTE for summer – they really pair up perfectly. I’ll definitely be recommending this to people.

Missha Tonight Brilliance Oil in Cream Kbeauty Review

Tonight Brilliance Oil in Cream | USD$15 (discounted from USD$30)

And the second product in this kit, which is the one that I wasn’t sure about, is the Tonight Brilliance Oil-in-Cream. Since I have combination-oily skin, I tend to avoid anything with oils in it – I’ve been told that facial oils are actually good for me but I’m not a fan of how they feel. However, as the name suggests, this is a blend of a skin oil and cream formula – so I was curious about whether this would be better for my skin type.

It actually has a thinner texture that is reminiscent of a lotion (in my opinion) but the oil blend makes it an effective ‘last step’ to your evening skincare. Similarly to the essence, this claims to have the double function of anti-wrinkle and brightening benefits, as well as that same Micro Technology for deeper absorption of the ingredients and longer lasting effects.

Key ingredients include:

  • Ceramide: to strengthen the skin barrier
  • Pearl Protein (Hydrolyzed Conchiolin Protein): for skin radiance
  • Pearl Powder: for skin radiance
  • Succinoyl Atelocollagen: to maintain skin moisture

Like the essence, this formula also has an incredibly beautiful almost iridescent colour that is derived from the pearl extract. Since this has a more creamy colour to begin with, it’s a lot more visible. Although it isn’t an added pigment (i.e. it’s a natural effect from the ingredients), the appearance is just so fun and absolutely stunning!

Packaging

The packaging for the Oil in Cream is similar to the Essence as it also has a purple gradient finish. However, this one is opaque and with more of a pearl finish. The tub is made from a nice quality and, visually, I also like the balance of the matte finish lid. However, looking at the size of the cap and its height, I do think that the shape could have been more sleek to make this better for travel.

As you can see on the bottom, the cream also comes with a plastic inner lid to keep the product fresher and prevent spillage. However, because of how thin the formula is, I found that the cream often seeped outside of this cap anyway. I’m always careful not to tilt it sideways because I suspect that it will leak.

In general, I liked the visuals of the packaging. However, it leaves something to be desired in terms of being travel friendly and secure. I think that this is more to do with the design than the quality – this formula might have been better suited to a pump bottle dispenser than a tub.

Personal Experience

This product really surprised me – first off because the texture was a lot thinner than expected. Since it was a cream, I was expecting quite a thick and rich formula. I like this though because it’s easy to apply – a little goes a long way and it’s easy to layer over other products. It takes a bit of time to absorb but doesn’t sit on top of skin either.

I find that my skin has a bit of oily residue in the mornings, but it’s easy to wash off with water and I don’t get any break outs from it. The results are good – my skin always felt so smooth and hydrated, though perhaps not as impressively as with the Tonight Brilliance Boosting Essence. Again, I didn’t really notice any longer term brightening benefits. It does give my skin that instant glow but I prefer the finish of the essence in comparison, as this feels a bit heavier.

Since this cream has some oils in it, I saved it for my evening routine. I think it works well as an overnight treatment but would not be recommending it for day time use, under make up or for people with very oily skin.

Missha Tonight Brilliance Oil in Cream Kbeauty Review

I liked the Tonight Brilliance Oil in Cream! I was originally concerned that the oils would break me out but I’m happy with the overnight skin benefits from it. However, it is limiting in that I can only use this at night. I still think that my skin type prefers a more gel based moisturiser.

I would recommend this for people with dry or dehydrated skin. It also works for combination skin if you’re not looking for something under your make up, but I think this will be too much for oily skin types. Definitely consider your skincare habits and routine before deciding on this one.

Here’s the verdict!

SO WHAT IS IT?

A deeply hydrating blend of oil and cream with a thin, lotion-like texture

OVERALL RATING? 7/10

THOUGHTS? I didn’t mind this product and will continue to use it – the benefits are definitely nice and it works well for my evening routine. However, I just think it would be better suited for a different skin type.

Overall, I think that Missha has done a brilliant job with this new Goodnight Brilliant Range. This kit is great if you want to try out both of these products but the price point is also great when purchased individually too. This range is absolutely targeted for a drier skin type and for your evening routine, but I like that it mostly works for up to combination skin type too.

Personally, I would be looking to repurchase the Tonight Brilliant Boosting Essence out of the two. It just works so well for my skin and I love that it gives me the flexibility to use it both day and night.
