Lunar New Year Shopping Guide

Lunar New Year Shopping Guide

Lunar New Year is approaching again! Being of Chinese descent, I celebrate with my family every year. I’m hoping that we can do the same again but, due to the COVID-19 situation, will have to see how things go – I have a fairly large family (with a lot of kids) and it’s always our tradition to have a reunion dinner. There’s also the giving out of red envelopes (li shi in Chinese), but I find that spending time with my loved ones is a lot more important to me now.

In Chinese, we call the Reunion Dinner tuan nian fan and it’s really the most important get-together event of the year. In Western Society, it’s really common to have parties or even go on holidays to celebrate the new year, but Chinese culture is all about being with your family. Around this time, people will almost never go on holidays unless they are travelling back to their hometowns to be with relatives.

I’ve always loved that tradition. As everyone gets older and busier (with most of the family working jobs, having a couple of kids and trying to navigate life in general), it can be so hard to find time to get together again. Personally, I think it’s important to see your parents and family throughout the year but it’s also nice that there’s a special dinner especially for that!

Because the Lunar New Year is so important throughout all of Asia, there are a lot of makeup brands that also release limited edition collections for the occasion. You’ll find that there are a lot of repackaged products – since it is customary to give gifts rather than buy things for yourself – but well… there’s no harm in having a bit of fun ourselves!

Here’s a short gift guide on some things that are available this year around. Click below to jump straight to the brand you want or head right to the bottom for some gift-giving tips!

Review: Body Lotion (Kadee Botanicals)

Kadee Botanicals Body Lotion Skincare Review

This product was sent to me for review purposes.

Last month, I posted on Instagram about the Kadee Botanicals Body Lotion – an Australian product that I especially enjoyed in the colder seasons (when my skin was super dry from sleeping with an electric blanket). It’s since starting to warm up here in Sydney but I’m reminding myself not to slack off on body care!

Kadee Botanicals is a luxury skincare brand that specialises in Australian natural plant based products. One of their main ingredients, Kakadu Plum, “is only found in northern Australia and sustainably farmed by remote communities.” In addition to this, all Kadee Botanicals products are free of Sulphates (SLS & SLES), Parabens, Petroleum based Mineral oils, Artificial colours and Artificial fragrances. Their products are also not tested on animals, so you can shop guilt-free.

This Body Lotion is available on their website for AUD$55 for a 250mL bottle – it’s a bit pricey but Kadee is a luxury brand and their use of Aussie botanicals is a unique selling point. Pop over to their website if you want to check out this product, or anything else that they offer.

Before that though – let me get into this review!

Review: Vitis Vinifera Rejuvenating & Age Revitalizing Face Defence Mask (Enbacci)

Enbacci Sheet Mask Skincare Review

This product was sent to me for review purposes.

How often do you find yourself sheet masking? A lot of people in Korea use these almost religiously and there was even a trend a while ago of masking multiple times a day. That’s a bit excessive for me (and wouldn’t fit into most people’s daily routines) but I’m working on incorporating these into my evening routine at least every 2-3 days.

Most of the masks that I’ve used in the past have been Korean but this time I’m trying out an Australian brand! This is Enbacci, a skincare brand that launched back in 2013. As of right now their product lines range from face care, body care, even candles and diffusers – my focus today will be on their sheet masks though.

I was given the opportunity to test out the Vitis Vinifera Rejuvenating Mask and the Age Revitalizing Face Defence Mask. I actually had no obligation to be reviewing them on my blog (as I don’t often do so for sheet masks) but I really wanted to write about these!

The prices for both masks slightly differ but start at AUD$20. You can buy them in either single units or a box of five on their official website (free shipping on all orders for Australia or flat rate international shipping) or by visiting their flagship store in Melbourne.

And now – onto this review!

Interview: Behind the Scenes with Yuni Beauty

Yuni Beauty Interview

Yuni Beauty is a brand that I’ve worked with a few times since being introduced to them last year. I actually met a member of their team at a Sephora Showcase and they quickly won me over with their passion for sustainability and also creating beauty products for active (and fast paced) lifestyles. I’ve used a good handful of their products already and I’ve definitely had some great experiences.

Recently, I had the opportunity to ask a few questions to their co-founder, Emmanuel Ray, both about the brand and some of the amazing things that they release. Read on for my interview with him where he discusses the history of Yuni Beauty, the story behind one of their most famous products and what new goodies are in store.

After this, you can also shop their range at either their main website (Yuni Beauty) or, if you’re in Australia, they’re stocked at Sephora Australia! I would personally be recommending their Rose & Cucumber Shower Sheets, the Count to Zen Rejuvenating Hand and Body Creme (which is my go-to product for my RetinA side-effect dry skin) and their Chillax Muscle Recovery Gel!

New Release: Glow with the Flow & Count to Zen (Yuni Beauty)

Yuni Beauty Glow with the Flow and Count to Zen Review

This product was sent to me for review purposes.

In recent years, there’s been a great movement towards natural and sustainable beauty products, as well as new interest in the active beauty audience – and this is definitely something that I’m keen for! Although I don’t personally lead a very active lifestyle (I do go to the gym a few times a week but it’s begrudgingly and I’m more of a homebody than anything), I feel like the two actually go hand in hand – if you work out and want to treat your body well, then surely that will reflect in your skincare too.

On the topic of skincare, sometimes I have to remind myself that it isn’t necessarily all about my face (although it can feel like it at times). There are a number of body skincare products that I personally enjoy and, for this Christmas period, I also want to share these two new ones that I’ve been testing out from Yuni Beauty.

In the past, I have used their Shower Sheets (the Rose Cucumber scent is – in my opinion – the very best) and the Glow Between Jelly Micro Mist (which was interesting but I haven’t thoroughly tested it yet) – both of them were very unique to my collection and were unlike anything that I’d used before.

These new ones are primarily targeted for the body – the Glow with the Flow and the Count to Zen. Super cute names aside, they are also very universally suitable products that would work for most skin types and preferences. It is definitely perfect if you’re wanting to get a Christmas gift, perhaps for someone who prefers simple essentials.

In this post, I won’t be doing a super in-depth review, as I want to get this written while you can still do your shopping, but first impressions will be here!

So, read on to find out more!
